(the slight delay is due to me auditing, making sure I haven't missed any higher ranks...
this is the biggest cut-off split since we lost 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough' amongst others in #Let5D0It)
I'm relistening to my choices for #Let5D0It.
I really loved doing those challenges because 1) I got to irritate a lot of people, 2) I learned that I had an justified interest in music that was really off-kilter to everyone else and 3) Turns out I really like instrumental(ish) popular music

Some provisional numbers:
16 advance lists
plus
70 other posters listed, including those who said they would be playing but are yet to post
86 is in the ballpark of #FearofMu21C and #Let5D0It, which is promising.
#Ye-Ye-Yeah 60s French pop
9/15 Serge Gainsbourg - La chanson de Prévert
I've chosen a couple of Serge tunes, but no actual Serge yet ... so here's a mellow one, discovered via #Let5D0It
The others were:
- Back To Black in #FearofMu21C, led by 2 points, finished 9th
- Tutti Frutti in #Let5D0It, led by 2 points, finished 11th.
(three of the other four were led by 'I Feel Love' after Month 1 😇)
#ALL50RTS #32
Laura Nyro - Stoney End | More Than a New Discovery (1967)
Back in #Let5d0it I was the only one to pick Barbra Streisand's version of this, a bonus pick too.
To show you I've no hard feelings (grrrr) I'm giving you a chance to redeem yourselves, so here's Laura's glorious original.
#ALL50RTS
21. The Beatles - In My Life (1965)
This was on my list for #Let5D0It until my dad pointed out it was never released as a single. Straight in for this challenge.

Total group of death for me - two songs I picked for #Let5D0It and two others I love. Picking Roxy but could go for any of them any other day.

Day 14
"Livin' in the Sunlight, Lovin' in the Moon Light" by Tiny Tim, from God Bless Tiny Tim (1968)
This was one of the songs I was mad to learn wasn't a single in #Let5D0It. Also I'm a real Tinyhead, know the albums I didn't grok this was from SpongeBob til after I discovered him
btw had I done #Let5D0it Over Under Sideways Down would have been on the list. That is one of my favorite songs of all time. But I should save that for a yardbirds thread when I post White Summer (prob).
This is a tricky one, as it was chosen more than once in #Let5D0It, on account of the 1973 release and charting in the US.
I would *much* prefer it for this however. It really felt like a stretch as a "single" but it's a natural fit as B-side and album track.
I was in exactly the same place with Babe Ruth’s “The Mexican” and left it out of my #Let5D0it list.
And I’ve now gone and convinced myself that I can’t add it to this list! 😭😆
#All50rts
10. Quarteto Em Cy - Tudo Que Você Podia Ser (from the 1972 self-titled album)
Loads of versions of this song but this is comfortably the best.
Fairly sure it wasn’t a single. Spent ages trying to prove it was for #Let5D0It without success so having it here.
Probably I'm over-thinking things, but this wasn't on my list for #All50rts because I already voted for it in #Let5D0It due to the existence of a very limited edition release on 7".

#ALL50RTS 50 favourite non-singles, chronologically. Day 3.
The Clash - Stay Free (1978)
And one more that *would* have made it into my #Let5D0It list, whereas no Clash single eventually did (see also: "Spanish Bombs").
#ALL50RTS 50 favourite non-singles, chronologically. Still on the before-my-time / obvious ones:
T. Rex - Cosmic Dancer (1971)
My favourite T. Rex track - none of their actual singles eligible for #Let5D0It came close to making my list, while this one would have been top 10.
#ALL50RTS 50 favourite non-singles, chronologically. Some token '60s / obvious picks first:
The Rolling Stones - Gimme Shelter
My favourite Stones track - I didn't consider any Stones singles for #Let5D0It at the time.

Arron hosts some of the most engaging - and high maintenance - #MusicChallenge on SM. So if you have enjoyed any of these (and you can afford to do so) please give some money to this worthy cause.
#OTD in 1964 Roy Orbison releases It’s Over. This came close to making my #Let5D0it list.

Too late now but you know what I should've suggested - Samples.
Because I managed to get Apache by the Incredible Bongo Band accepted as a single for #Let5D0It but I'm currently looking at Alphaville's Forever Young for #All50RTS
If you're following the various info tabs in the #1C000LEST HITLIST, you'll see a nice* symmetry on the 'Survivors' one...
1 #LetsDoIt25 (pre-1954)
11 #Let5D0It (1954-76)
11 #UncoolTwo50 (1977-99)
1 #FearofMu21C (2000-23)
*well, that depends on your era preference, i guess.
This is what I discovered with #Let5D0It. I tried to be down the line with my choices but discovered that the generation after the event had decided what the canon was.
I was very surprised "American Girl" didn't make #Let5D0It (not so much surprised about him flailing in the next challenge, talk about vote split hell) but that would explain it
Queen Bitch and Suffragette City are on my long list. Still WILD to me that the latter was not eligible for #Let5d0it. (Original B-side only later released as an A-side, yes?) And wild it’s not more popular than it is. (78M Spotify plays vs. 631M for “Starman.”)
another table Year Count Sum of Changes Average Change 1976 18 849 47.17 1984 9 475 52.78 1988 13 432 33.23 2000 12 336 28.00 1927 6 296 49.33 1943 5 292 58.40 1993 6 275 45.83 1971 14 263 18.79 1950 11 249 22.64 2001 19 243 12.79 1986 9 193 21.44
overall stats (ofc pending the top 120, though counterintuitively there's less room for the remaining songs to jump *quite* as much overall, as average remaining rank is around 30) show that 1976 is the best performing #let5d0it year relative to expectation in terms of total & average rise!
Homer Simpson watching a tripe of Blacula, Blackenstein and the Bunch Black of Blotre Blame "Ooh funky"
My big issue with #All50RTS is I'm a #let5d0it person but my goodness everything you think an obscure track was released at some point as a single. Even if it charted at 82.
Anyway @tomewing.bsky.social we'll all need to discuss what are the best Parliament/Sly Stone/Ohio Players album tracks
Well, Joan Armatrading fans on #Let5D0It and #1C000LEST:
Richard Ashcroft's been sampling again - with love and affection (and permission!)
youtu.be/a0jxbliRYg0?...
the 45 edit of "Wednesday Night Prayer Meeting" got some spins out of me during #Let5D0It, but after tracking down hundreds of those singles, my conclusion is that apart from soul-jazz it really was an album-oriented genre
