In linear regression, when is it appropriate to use the log of an independent variable instead of the actual values? Am I looking for a better behaved distribution for the independent variable in question, or to reduce the effect of outliers, or something else?

Thoughts: Great thread explaining the (few) instances when log transforming makes sense

In mathematics, the #logarithm of a number was the exponent by which another fixed value, the base, must be raised to produce that number. For example, the logarithm of 1000 to base 10 was 3, because 1000 was 10 to the 3rd power: 1000 = 103 = 10 × 10 × 10.

Logarithm should use a ton of caching but I'll try to make memory usage minimal (perhaps via streaming) since loading all logs can be resource intensive on its own.

Stay tuned #logarithm

I think this game is just about over, and the big winner has my initials. #sine and #cosine of the #logarithm of #markovnumbers in order appear to oscillate with perfectly level routine. I'll have to derive how #sinh and #cosh relate to sin and cosine of ln. #markovnumbers #unicity #chebyshev

Bidirectional diagram of the logiverse. There are 3 clients and 2 servers. The first client is called 'login' and has a bidirectional arrow pointing at todepond's server. The second client is 'loggo' and has a bidirectional arrow pointing at svenlaa's server as well as an arrow pointing from todepond's server into itself. The third instance is called 'logarithm' and has arrows pointing from the two servers into itself, but has no arrows pointing any servers

Made a bidirectional graph because I could (using the same three clients). I hope to get logarithm to have arrows pointing back soon so stay tuned #logarithm
