A lenten rose with its petals still mostly in a closed position. As a result, it looks like a tulip. However, the shorter but wider leaves close to the bloom give away that it’s not a tulip. The rose is angled to the right and has muted pink and mauve colors with darker hues on the underside and paler areas on the outer part of the top petal. The leaves are a bright green, with some almost lime green hues for the highlights and darker hues for the shadows.

My next module for the Royal School of Needlework certificate is silk shading. I’ll be using the photo on the left as my reference. It looks like a tulip but it’s actually a Lenten Rose, that is on its way to opening up.
