A sleep transition concept is a great idea. Sleep stages have different parasympathetic (⬆️non-REM) and sympathetic (⬆️REM) tone. I would pose that the #locuscoeruleus and the sub-coeruleus complex deactivation is also possible given their established role in REM sleep and sympthatetic activation.
