Letterboxed review: This really must be the most beautiful film ever made. An investigation into the death of Vincent Van Gogh by one of his painting subjects, Armand Roulin... the story challenged some assumptions l'd made myself, knowing little about Van Gogh's personal story beforehand. Spectacular animation using countless oil paintings, an immense project beautifully executed. I've had this on blue ray for some time meaning to find the right moment to watch it. This coming weekend I'm actually going to the 'Van Gogh expo' in York (animated paintings experienced where you can walk inside them projected onto surrounding walls). This movie has set me up nicely to appreciate that. Great that the actors voicing the characters are very recognisable their painted form (Aiden Turner, Chris O'Dowd, Saoirse Roman, John Sessions, Jerome Flynn). Absolutely genius. Movie of the year for me!
