The old Celtic year followed a seasonal structure organised around quarter days.

Imbolc, Bealtaine, Lughnasa, Samhain.
Each marked the start of a new season.

The day began at sunset.
Change began quietly, in the dark.

One of my best decisions this year was to pick up singing lessons again.

Here a duet with my friend and singing teacher Viola Bornmann.

The song is a cover of Patrick Wolf's #Lughnasa. (I had to cut the beginning because of the 3 minute max on Bluesky...)

Rye straw for the project. Some of it is yellow and ripe, and the Canadian wild rye is still green. Both kinds have the seed heads. I tried braiding some of this straw, and let's just say I have a long way to go.

OK, so I am still in the corn dolly phase of this summer. I spent Friday afternoon and evening with my youngest granddaughter and we had so much fun with this project. We purused Pinterest a bit and watched a couple of videos. Mostly, we winged it. #lammas #lughnasa #witchsky #folk_art

Happy Lúnasa to all that celebrate!

In addition to my annual hike up the mountain to view pika, I tried my hand at baking oat bannocks. The bake turned out horribly but I saw some beautiful bull elk so the day was a success!

#FolkloreSunday: `Horse races, with some indication that they may have held some ritual significance, are very much a feature of the #Lughnasa celebration.
Remember Macha, who had been forced into a race against the horses of Conchobar while heavily pregnant? […]

Was bummed about having to cut my Lughnasa ride short yesterday but made up for it with a fitting ride to Scotland (Ontario). Broke quite a few PRs as well!

🌾 Lughnasa, the ancient Celtic festival marking the start of the harvest, was named for the god Lugh and celebrated with feasts, games & gratitude. Today, honour the tradition by harvesting summer veg & sowing for autumn. The wheel turns—your garden grows. 🥕🌽 #Lughnasa #HarvestTime #GrowYourOwn

An American flag is hanging at the next house down and beyond that is an orange sunrise. The plants have that fullness almost to overflowing that comes with late summer.

Today, the festival of Lughnasa celebrates Lugh, god of craft and harvest. Today is also the feast of St. Alphonsus Ligouri, a guide in mercy and conscience. Both remind us: wisdom isn’t just knowing, it’s doing things with care. What we do, and how we do it matters. #Lughnasa #StAlphonsus
