Dies ist eine detaillierte Nahaufnahme von Horvathiolus superbus, einer auffälligen Wanzenart aus der Familie der Bodenwanzen (Lygaeidae). Das Insekt zeigt die charakteristische leuchtende Färbung, die diese Art leicht erkennbar macht: einen vorwiegend orangeroten Körper mit markanten schwarzen Zeichnungen, einschließlich prominenter schwarzer Flecken und Bereiche auf den Flügeldecken. Die Fühler der Wanze sind deutlich sichtbar und erscheinen dunkel und segmentiert, während die Beine die typische bräunliche bis dunkle Färbung aufweisen. Bemerkenswert ist der kleine weiße oder cremefarbene Fleck, der auf dem dunkleren hinteren Körperabschnitt zu sehen ist. Das Exemplar wurde auf einer rauen, körnigen Häuserwand mit marmorierter beige-rötlichbrauner Textur fotografiert. Die geringe Schärfentiefe erzeugt einen ansprechenden Unschärfe-Effekt im Hintergrund, während das Insekt scharf fokussiert bleibt. Horvathiolus superbus ist eine europäische Art, die für ihre auffällige Warnfärbung bekannt ist, welche als Zeichen für Ungenießbarkeit oder Wehrhaftigkeit bei potenziellen Fressfeinde dient. Der robuste, ovale Körperbau und die gut entwickelten Beine sind typische Anpassungen für diese bodenbewohnende Art, die oft in trockenen, sandigen Lebensräumen anzutreffen ist und sich von verschiedenen Pflanzenmaterialien ernährt.
Es gibt eine ganze Reihe an rot-schwarzen Wanzenarten. Die Imagines und Larven von Horvathiolus superbus saugen an verschiedenen Pflanzensamen, u. a. Schwalbenwurz.
