Even Tuilelaith downplayed her role, using innuendo and crass references to make them seem powerless yet endlessly available. River hadn’t understood why the Council (of Sorcerous Midwifery and Monstrous Husbandry, but who had time to say that) had wanted a streamer in the sororiety but Tuilelaith was a druid; she worked exclusively with animals. The government didn’t give a shit what you did with animals. So she could use all their language, all their training about consent, about maternal health and welfare, and most importantly, about abortion without alarming anyone, without pushing any buttons, without any fear of reprisal. No one cared what you did with a lion cub, or an ankheg, or gods forbid, a cave barnacle.
