I mentioned them before for #Critterary, but my squild are a particular favorite creature I added to the story on a whim.
Now my one-eyed squid creatures have a major role in SUCCESSION (book 2), and they're trying to work their way into the final story.

Considering the series takes place in a different solar system, all of my creatures are created. π
I mentioned quite a few during #Critterary, complete with (old) illustrations I did of them in 2024.

Yeah, I think I came up with that while writing my post on the ferns for #Critterary, and it just felt obvious.
Plants stole photosynthesis from bacteria. Why not have them steal magic production from them, too?
Anyway, what are your magical bacteria and endosymbiosis hosts like?
There is no major reason why charge-stones have to be made of ivory. I want SOME reason for mammoths, but it doesn't have to be for their ivory (some people were upset by my "raising animals for ivory" during #Critterary) β and even then, there are other applications for ivory. (12/16)
#Critterary 31
It was amazingly fun. I wish it could go on, but alas, all good things come to an end. I will miss this. Farewell, and happy writing.

Thank you so much for hosting this! π Even if I didn't participate for all of it, it was really fun being able to talk about some of my various critters and creatures like this~ A++ prompt game~
Thank you for hosting this!

#Critterary thank you for hosting! This was a lot of fun!!
#Critterary 31: Thank you so much for hosting this @serraleta.bsky.social! It was a lot of fun!
#Critterary 31. Farewell!
I have to say, I enjoyed this month so much. I did a ton of worldbuilding notes just from these prompts and I had a fun time doing it. A+++ one of my favorite prompts and hope to see it again in the future
#Critterary
Awwwwwww Iβm gonna miss critterary π it was so fun! And I loved seeing everyoneβs critters!!
Thank you for hosting it!!! π₯°
As a parting gift, Unicorn would like to apologize for any peanut butter or coffee that was stolen along the way βΊοΈ
Three cheers to @serraleta.bsky.social for hosting #Critterary and bringing all of us together to explore our worlds' animal kingdoms.

#Critterary was indeed a good time. Sorry I spent most of this talking about tabletop stuff instead of writing, but that's where I do most of my stuff involving animals π . You were a great host, and it was fun seeing/reading about all the cool beasties everyone made.
#Critterary
Amazing prompt game, wonderful host. I had loads of fun, and was honestly surprised at how much I had to contribute with, even though I don't often include critters in my work.
Huge thanks to @serraleta.bsky.social and everyone who played! Same time next year? π
Thanks for hosting #Critterary! It was really fun reading about yours and other people's critters and sharing about my own :D
What started as a random flash idea to run a fun little prompt game, and also to help me reach out more to others to engage & talk more (I am NOT used to my notos blowing up daily like they did πΆ) It also helped me *finally* (well, kinda-sorta π) discuss my writing more (apologies 1/3)
#Critterary
Thank you so much for hosting! And even though I didn't have all the animals in my stories I still had fun! π

#Critterary - A January writing prompt game. Today's Theme: Farewell Post! Thanks for playing! I hope everyone had fun! Bottom Tagline: Celebration of all things creatures! Hosted by Serra Leta. Art of a cartoon cat on its hind lets. holding a sign above its head reading "THANKS". Background is a leafy jungle.
Day 31
The month has ended & so has the prompt game π We laughed, we cried, hopefully everyone had a good time, & maybe the real Critterary were all the friends we made along the way βΊοΈ Time to turn off my posting alarm, & lets wrap this up! π¦π¦πΌπΈπ¦π²π¦π¦π¦

And #critterary just wrapped up but it I was a fun way to meet other world builders and focus on creatures.
Finally #awesomecharacters is a fun daily post that lets you gush about OCs while diving deep into them.
#Critterary I do have singing mushrooms that are an important spell component.

I can't think of anything we overlooked that wouldn't spoil the story. I mean we even got into the Gods themselves. All in all a fun game!
Thank you @serraleta.bsky.social
#Critterary
Plant/fungi-based creatures are a good one! I didn't even realize until now they hadn't been included, but a lot of people in my worldbuilding circle of friends have something that would apply. I have a lot, but no art of any of them yet, so my reply would have been text only
#Critterary
I'll talk briefly about the most ridiculous creature I intend to include.
A "Mahaha", an Inuit legend, a monster that tickles its victims to death.
Virgil encounters one in "Hail Santa." He defeats it easily, but it makes him very uncomfortable Lucifer does... not handle that well.
Fun little tidbit fact abt me: my middle school "published" (to students, faculty, and parents) a book of poetry written by the students. One of my poems was featured and it was about a cat playing with a ball of yarn. That was my first published piece ever.

#Critterary
Sticking to my Hellscape, I suppose Ill mention my Man-O-Greens who make cameos.
There is serious sexual dimorphism at play. The males are leshii (the familiar "Green Man") with tree bodies, but with a head and face made out of leaves or branches.
Then the females...

This is gonna be a long one so Iβll probably have to post in segments.
Starting with WIP 1:I mentioned previously thereβs some unclear distinction between a spirit and a God. So Iβll just discuss some specific figures that appear in the story and what most people (or the spirit) think-
#Critterary 30. Anything missed!
I didn't talk about Pooka! A species of dreamweavers, they have a monkey's head w/ an upright canine style body out of glamour. Most are so tall and gangly they have issues walking without mobility aids. They're powered by a dragon ruby where they're heart should be
#critterary
The Pale Horseman, John Dee, is a lepidopterist and gains visions from clouds of agitated butterflies.
There's also mothmen on the moon...
Large forests of pine trees are in Re: Shattered Memories in certain parts of the world.
