A woman in medieval dress rides backwards on a goose. In one hand she waves a slightly suggestively shaped distaff, recalling the "Narrenwurst" carried by medieval jesters; in the other she grasps a fox with one of her chickens in his mouth. The fox is very surprised to find himself being bitten by the woman!

A medieval jester is attacked by several cats, one playing the bagpipes! He carries a Fool's Stick with an angry jester's face on it, that snarls at the cats, and some rats above him are sneakily carrying away his pied piper pipe into the rafters. The owl he carries on his right wrist looks alarmed and confused.

Non non, vous avez bien lu : Peste, poulet, cul.

C’est un célèbre remède médical médiéval. Et en réalité, c’est parfaitement rationnel. Un fil ! #medievalsky #medievalists

On the basis that there are no stupid questions, #historians and #medievalists, please help me. I've always understood that #Canterbury became a place of pilgrimage after the murder of #ThomasBecket. But I've just heard it said that Becket himself made a pilgrimage there. What am I missing?

I deciphered some heavily abbreviated scholastic Latin pasted in a binding and found Johannes Nider’s Praeceptorium divinae legis hiding in the flyleaves of a Thalbach devotional book.

Read Heather O’Donoghue’s Beowulf: Poem, Poet, and Hero, and loved it. Fascinating contextualization of the poem as well as a literary analysis. For those of us who can’t get enough Beowulf (there are dozens of us! Dozens!) very much worth it.

Six women and four men - that we can see - are dancing underneath and beyond a leafy tree with pink berries, behind which a fifth man in a 16th century soldier's colourful clothes hides, watching the dancers. One dancing girl passes behind a leafless tree to the right of the soldier, a little further away; beyond her, to top right, her sister apparently dances alone, into an oncoming breeze, but perhaps her dance partner is just ouside our viewpoint.

Les cathares... n'ont pas existé. Même s'ils ont existé.
