Let's turn up the volume a bit. #MidnightAsphalt is now #HighwayNoir! Tell your friends, tell your cat, tell everybody you can!

I've gone quiet on #MidnightAsphalt lately
A possible trademark issue arose, not wishing to cause trouble for myself or others I have updated the title...
HIGHWAY NOIR
I'd love for you to wishlist :)

More on #HighwayNoir soon!

I just opted #MidnightAsphalt into the upcoming #SteamNextFest. Shut up, I'm not having an anxiety attack, YOU'RE having an anxiety attack!
It finally happened! ๐๐๐
Ladies and germs, #MidnightAsphalt now has a #Steam page! I can confirm that this game is a blast and it's fixing to have loads of content. Get those wishlists in and support the cause!

#MidnightAsphalt has a Steam page and a release window!
If you like the look of it, please do wishlist: store.steampowered.com/app/3317730/...
I don't want to play this card often but reposts are highly appreciated

OK, I may have screwed up here ๐
The announcement is that #MidnightAsphalt has a new trailer, a Steam page and a release window
This was supposed to be paired with a grand reveal but I forgot that there's a store front review process. Well, I've requested my review so I'll reveal all ASAP!
It's not time to share it yet - soon - but I've done some work I'm really proud of for #MidnightAsphalt today
A little birdy told me that a #Steam page for #MidnightAsphalt has appeared on the horizon. You can get a head start by following @archangelsoftworks.co.uk in preparation for the drop!
#WishlistWednesday #NeoNoir #DrivingGames #RacingGames #Gaming #IndieDev #SpyHunter #NeedForSpeed
#WishlistWednesday already? I don't yet have a fully finished page for #MidnightAsphalt (was that a tease for something coming in the near future? I couldn't possibly comment)
But I do know something worth wishlisting that DOES have a page: #CurtainsTheClown

I'm tightening up my controller support on #MidnightAsphalt (a lot of people prefer controllers and some require them. #GameAccessibility is your friend, peeps) and I'm really impressed with the way #GodotEngine handles control node navigation out of the box. The Neighbor system is great
I just had a really weird thought. A couple of people have talked to me about the 'art direction' of #MidnightAsphalt (thank you, by the way)
Seeing as I've done all the work on the graphics am I technically an Art Director now? I just make pixels happen
It's still #ScreenshotSaturday. Check out this teaser for #MidnightAsphalt!
Can I just say, the implied Sunday driver followed by the speed demon really brought the room together.

A very early development screenshot of a driving game. The background is flat dark grey, the road is flat light grey with lane lines as the only detail. All cars are the same very simple, 8 polygon shape. The player is flat green, NPCs are flat blue. The road visibly runs out in the middle distance
An in development driving game. The sky is cloudy with hints of stars. The scene is a black and white city with tall buildings, street lamps and a highway running through it. There is a speedometer HUD item in the top left. The player car is a green sports car with two white vertical stripes. Two police cars are in pursuit, their roof lights picked out in blue. All tail lights are in red. A helicopter with a searchlight is also in pursuit. The road is covered in water, the cars have spray from the wheels and there is visible rain
Occasional 'how it started, how it's going' post for #MidnightAsphalt

Ahoy there,
I'm working on #MidnightAsphalt, a neon noir, revenge thriller driving game. Please consider this an application for your fine starter pack :)
Photo of a black polo shirt laid out on a beige carpet. A stylised, green capital A is embroidered on it, the Archangel Softworks logo
Two packets of sweets laid out on a beige carpet. One is blue and promises to contain Tetris themed sweets, the other is black and had better contain Space Invaders sweets or I will be most upset
An in development driving game. The scene is a black and white city highway. Tail lights and the player car are picked out in colour. The player is being pursued by a helicopter with a searchlight
I'm at @developconference.com on Wednesday 9th. I'll be wearing a black polo shirt with my logo. Unless I'm late for a meeting I can offer you a nerdy jelly sweet or a quick go on the current #MidnightAsphalt build on my Deck
I answer to 'Mike' or 'that guy with the black and white driving game'
An in-development driving game. The scene is a highway in a city in black and white with tail lights in colour. The surrounding buildings are distant from the road leaving an expanse of concrete. The buildings are all black cuboids with small, bright squares for random lit windows. There are lamp posts that are too tall next to the cars
An in-development driving game. The scene is a highway in a city in black and white with tail lights in colour. The surrounding buildings are close to the road with ground level walls, trees and signs. The buildings are varying shapes with a couple of different styles of random lit windows. There are lamp posts that are tall but reasonable
It's a week until @developconference.com and I've put #MidnightAsphalt into code freeze and loaded a build onto my Deck. I think I've made some noticeable upgrades in the before and after!

A screenshot of a driving game. The scene is a highway through a city in black and white. Tail lights and the player are picked out in colour. In the leftmost lane is a newly added minibus model
Day off today but I do have this saved to share for #MidnightAsphalt. See the minibus to the left? That's the Saksa Poro (dear Finns: I learned that word on a holiday to Luosto and I loved it). There are now 5 different NPC vehicles. Better, but more to be made

A screenshot from Midnight Asphalt. The scene is a rainy highway in a city in black and white. The player car, important NPCs and all tail lights are picked out in colour. The player is avoiding police cars and a helicopter search light
Exciting! #MidnightAsphalt is in development, I'm still building up to a Steam page. But I recently updated my home page accordingly... archangelsoftworks.co.uk
Hope this record attempt goes well :D
I'm always up for more particle effects
Now in #MidnightAsphalt collisions cause sparks. And I finally enforced boundaries at the side of the road. Those cause sparks too, that's how you know

A screenshot of the Godot editor. Picked out and magnified are details showing that the scene being worked on is a literal billboard item, while the billboard mode of the image is switched off
The irony of having billboard mode turned off for the billboard design in #MidnightAsphalt

Screenshot of an in-development driving game. The scene is a highway through a black and white city with tail lights, the player car and an important NPC picked out in colour. The camera is high and angled down at the action, like a bird following the player
Chat, is this a good alternative camera angle for #MidnightAsphalt?
This is technically a bug I caused while testing a half implemented new feature but I think I like it

Let's go, new traffic vehicle! ๐๐ Never underestimate the power of variety!

A fairly lo-fi 3D model of a small truck, view angled from the front. It is a little under 4 metres high, 3 metres wide and about 8 metres long. The cabin is dark while the transport box is light in colour
First new #MidnightAsphalt vehicle for a while: the Soriano Cavalla+
Since I started this project I've got better with #Blender so I do want to do a second pass of my vehicle designs. This is fine as a first draft though and will help me with a set piece for the demo I have planned

"Heh, I wonder what happens if I double the top speed of the car in #MidnightAsphalt..."

Happy #ScreenshotSaturday
I'm finally ready to show you the latest on #MidnightAsphalt. I've completely reworked the environment (WIP) and there's a bit more context to the action in this clip

I flew too close to the sun with the number of polygons I was throwing at the screen in #MidnightAsphalt. Tanked the performance on #SteamDeck. But after a long day I have a solution! It does mean remaking a lot of the background buildings so screen shots once I've done that
#GameDev #Optimisation
An in development driving game. The scene is black and white with just the player car and all tail lights picked out in colour. To the right of the road are dark, cuboid buildings with unrealistically small windows lit up at random. On the left is a more detailed building with varied textures and more realistically sized windows
An in development driving game. The scene is black and white with just the player car and all tail lights picked out in colour. To the right of the road are dark, cuboid buildings with unrealistically small windows lit up at random. On the left are two more detailed buildings with varied textures and more realistically sized windows. The closest building has visible balconies with railings. The other has a curve to it rather than being completely angular
I've started work on improving the environment in #MidnightAsphalt. I think some of the placeholder stuff has been holding me back when showing it. It's slow going but I've made three more detailed and realistic buildings. The right side of the road is unchanged
