A gorgeous vintage 1960s signed handmade 10K yellow gold and turquoise modernist cocktail ring. Makes a huge statement! A large high-topped natural high-quality Persian turquoise cabochon is gripped by a circle of gold prongs encircling the stone! Measures a hair under 1" diameter at top, rises 1/2" above the finger, size 10.5 US, and weighs 14.4 grams total. Signed inside the band, "EB" most likely for a maker in NYC or Providence, RI. Also marked "10K" as shown. The stone measures about 5/8" diameter, and is natural untreated high-quality Persian turquoise. The stone shows a couple tiny dots of greening from age, but overall retains the beautiful original turquoise blue. A really exceptional vintage 1960s couture modernist cocktail ring! (Please note: As of 1/28/26 the scrap value for the gold alone on this ring is over $1000! This is a high fashion cocktail ring probably from NYC, and with a lovely natural turquoise stone as well!) A super rare no doubt one of a kind vintage 1950s handmade sterling silver and pottery modernist cocktail ring by artist-craftsman Johannan Peter of the Ein Hod artist colony in northern Israel. Entirely handmade and no doubt a one of a kind piece of wearable modern art cocktail ring by a titan of Israeli mid century modernist jewelry! The oversized sterling setting features a large elongated oval green ceramic 'stone' with cratered and variegated colored surface. Really striking design, and a unique pottery piece too! Johannan Peter was one of the founders of the Ein Hod artist colony in Israel in 1953 along with Dada artist Marcel Janco and surrealist Jean (Hans) Arp. Johannan Peter and Arp collaborated on a jewelry series in the 1950s with the original designs by Arp and the pieces realized by Peter in his idiosyncratic manner. I've never seen more than one of any of Johannan Peters' designs which leads me to believe that he only made one of a kind jewelry pieces. Peter also worked in ceramics and made unique ceramic 'stones' for use in some of his jewelry designs. He also made one of a kind ceramic wall-hanging artworks - see the one that I have listed in my store. (It's the only example of his ceramic artworks that I have seen!) This ring measures 1.75" long at top by 3/4" wide with an adjustable band presently a size 8 US and easily adjusted up or down a few sizes, I'd say to fit a size 5 to about a size 10 or 11, and weighs a hefty 20.5 grams total. Marked as shown, "ST925 Made in Israel" for .925 sterling silver grade, and conjoined PJ artist cypher for Johannan Peter of the Ein Hod artist colony. Excellent vintage condition.

an INCREDIBLE and very large vintage 1970s handmade sterling silver and lapis lazuli modernist cocktail ring designed by Pekka Piekainen for the firm of Auran Kultaseppa in Finland. A spectacular statement ring that is overall about the size of an egg! Really outstanding design, simple but impressive! Here's a biography of the artist that I found online: Pekka Piekainen (1945 – 2004) was a leading Finnish silver jewelry and silver designer. His parents owned a jewelry and watch store in Helsinki and he first learned his skills at his father's workshop. In the 1960's he began his career working with Kaunis Koru. He then moved on to Auran Kultaseppa (the second oldest silver factory in Finland), where he worked from 1971 to 1989, as head designer and artistic director. In the early nineties he started own business named PlatinOro. Piekainen's pieces exhibited a smooth, clean, sleek, timeless style with geometric shapes and lines. He produced many items including bracelets, rings, earrings, silverware and bracelet watches. He also contributed to the watch designs of Omega, Tissot, and Lanco, and was the first Finnish designer employed by Tiffany in NYC. In 1979 Piekainen was awarded the state design prize, and in 2002 he was recognised as a Finnish pioneer by the Finnish Goldsmith Association for the first series of design watches made for large scale production. A gorgeous example of lapis lazuli cut as a cabochon, and perched atop a massive sterling silver setting. The ring is 1-3/4" from top to bottom! It measures 1-1/8" diameter at top, rises just over 1" above the finger, size 9.75- 10 US! It weighs a substantial 22.5 grams total. Fully marked with the Auran Kultaseppa mark, at which Piekainen was the head designer at the time, along with the Finnish National mark for sterling silver, also "925", the mark for the city of Turku, Finland, and last mark is the date letter "U7" for 1974. Unmistakeably his work! In excellent vintage condition

a RARE vintage 1990s handmade sterling silver and spectrolite statement modernist cocktail ring from Kaunis Koru of Helsinki Finland. A large statement ring that makes quite an impression on the hand! I am attributing this ring design to Mirjam Salminen based on similar designs shown in the "Finnish Silver" book from 1989. Mirjam Salminen (1918–1994) was an important designer in Finnish jewelry history. Her designs are always clean-lined and sculptural in a classic mid-century Scandinavian modern style! This big and bold statement ring features four oval deep rich blue spectrolite flat-top cabochons with rich flashes of orange, green and yellow when held up to a strong light source like sunlight. Measures 1.25" long by 1/2" wide at top with an adjustable band that is presently at a size 9.5 US, but will fit most fingers with a little tweaking. Weighs 4.1 grams total. As shown in the last photo, the ring is marked with KK mark for Kaunis Koru, local silversmith mark "MKR", "925" and date letter "S8" for 1995. Though this ring was made in the 1990s, it was designed by Salminen in the 60s/70s era and is quite a rare find. The only example of it that I've seen! Kaunis Koru was a design studio, so they never made the items themselves, they contracted with local silversmiths to actually hand fabricate their designs. (Some sellers mistake the silversmith mark as a designer mark, attributing the design to the silversmith, but this is erroneous. Kaunis Koru never used designer marks, and their designs can only be attributed based on similarity to known designs. One source for this information is the book, Finnish Silver, which shows many known designs by the designers that worked at Kaunis Koru.) Over the years, most of the greats of Finnish Silver design worked at Kaunis Koru including Pekka Piekainen, Bjorn Weckstrom, Mirjam Salminen, Paula Häiväoja, and many others.
