It’s the last afternoon of #MothNight 2022 - well worth looking for some day-flying beauties! Small Yellow Underwing (dwarfed by clover leaves), Pyrausta aurata, Celypha lacunana & Spindle Ermine Yponomeuta cagnagella larvae. Also saw Cauchas fibulella, a new species for me 😊

Micro-moth glitz ’n’ glamour✨- Brown China-mark (Elophila nymphaeata) found during the day today, next to a small pond. Its caterpillars are aquatic, feeding on pondweeds etc. These beauties will still be on the wing for #MothNight 8-10 July.

The moth ‘sugar’ I put out at the weekend may have been a washout for #MothNight but it’s now been discovered by the local Red Admirals - 4 together on the same patch at one point this afternoon. I reckon the wasps tipped them off...

First thought it's another White Satin moth, but this was a Brown-tail moth , Euproctis chrysorrhoea. So called as the back end of its body is a chestnut brown colour. Their caterpillars feed mainly on oak, apple and similar trees. #MothNight
