Spent the night just messing around with chords
and lyrics in my office.

Somehow it always ends up as a tiny
musical therapy session 🎶

Indie life, huh?

not a product, not a hustle, not a trend?
We’re trying to.

Anti-Everything is a Punk band from Trinidad and Tobago. I'd argue they're like Speed but instead of a flute, you have steel drum moments. Of course, they're not entirely like Speed and they just share the one thing I love hearing in Punk music. Unexpected instruments. The sound of this album is coherent yet takes you from Punk to Folk (examples: Welcome Yard and Letter to the Prime Minister) to a Metal song (True Love). Sounds don't matter as much as the message in Punk music. True Love does speak of issues left over by colonialism and wanting more fair governments in the world. Authentic in both messages and soundscape, I'd heavily recommend this album.

Yassa Blaster - CONNEXION
Pop

The second EP from French-Senegalese band, Yassa Blaster, is truly captivating. CONNEXION is fun and a bit nostalgic. With Summer here, this is perfect for the sunny vibes. In this humidity, I'd rather stay inside than properly enjoy the Summer outside but... Upbeat Synthpop that you'd have on a party playlist is still needed regardless of if the humidity is too much to handle or not.

Before the EP was released, DEM DEM was on repeat for me. After the EP, BAYIMA and MÉLONN joined that song as definite favorites. However, the whole EP is a great time.

stig bink - stigma
Rap

The algorithm, a beautiful thing. Sometimes it shows you a very yassified man rapping about... Poop. I got a notification for this album and thought I'd mess up my algorithm and listen. In 2020, I would have probably called this the best album. Now? Uh... It's either poop jokes or basic Rap music... Sometimes both. It's ever so confusing though. How will Bink replicate his filter face live? Will he always Rap about fecal matter? These are the questions that will keep me up at night.

I AM THE HIGHWAY (2003) by Audioslave At first glance, Audioslave’s “I Am the Highway” seems like the culmination of a long tradition of touring songs. The narrator has been on the road so long, he has become it. However, it soon …

“I Am the Highway” might sound like a road song, but Cornell was on a different trip entirely.

Not another cowboy-on-tour anthem. It's Whitman with a guitar.

Drangsal - Aus keiner meiner Brücken die in Asche liegen ist je ein Phönix emporgestiegen
Indie Pop, Pop Rock

A bit of a detour from older Drangsal's albums, Aus keiner meiner Brücken die in Asche liegen ist je ein Phönix emporgestiegen (English: From none of my bridges that lie in ashes has a phoenix ever risen), is more gritty. Lacking synthesizers but not orchestral moments. Having production that packs a punch. Being more 90s than 80s flavored. The sound matches the dreary energy of the oldschool Emo title. Which makes it the most mellow and depressing this project has been so far. Even though the contrast is great, this album is just as authentic as the rest of them. In a hectic year like this, it's the right time for this album to come out. As some people may be looking for a depression album for a moment as reassurance.

Aus keiner meiner Brücken die in Asche liegen ist je ein Phönix emporgestiegen offered many interesting things outside of a change in sound. English speakers who don't speak German don't have to translate a couple of songs on here. After Exit Strategy, I wasn't sure if we'd get another mixed language Drangsal release. Personally, I don't care what language an album is in but I love it when details like this catch me off guard. Pervert the Source was a single, yes. However, I assumed that would be a one off song and there wouldn't be more. Another thing is Sophia Blenda's feature in Mein Mo(nu)ment. Very beautiful song. Blenda's 2025 album is also amazing and if it weren't for that feature I wouldn't have found her music. Seeing who Max Gruber features or works with in other projects is always a good way to find new artists.

Overall, this is probably Drangsal's most vulnerable album. An outlier in their discography and in 2025 releases. Choosing an entire sentence for an album title in this decade... Not exactly common.

Gelli Haha - Switcheroo
Indie Pop/Dance

You ever wanted to revisit the 2000s or early 2010s? Switcheroo brings back Indie Sleaze in the most authentic way possible. Inspiration-wise from what I've read were "Studio 54 meets Area 51" and Kate Bush singing songs she wouldn't usually sing but... Maybe this is what artists in 2005-2010 were thinking? Switcheroo accidentally became the perfect Indie Sleaze revival album. Is it due to how effortless it sounds? Not serious but isn't completely absurd. Is it because it's not a carbon copy of any other album from anytime in the past? There's something oddly healing and nostalgic about these songs. Haha brought something from the dead we haven't heard in awhile. Bringing fun and whimsy to us rather than escaping into the fun and whimsy. Does that make sense? Probably not because this album is absolutely nonsensical. If you're missing some whimsy in your life... You may need to give this a spin.

Fair warning, Piss Artist is the absurd moment. It's a total shit post of a song. Sure Funny Music warns us about the nature of the album. Normalize, Dynamite, and Pluto is not a planet it's a restaurant that takes on an extremely different tone from that song though. Even then... Funny Music, Bounce House, and Spit; although the silliest of singles, does not match the unhinged party vibes of Piss Artist. I'm all for an absolute "what the fuck?!," moment but I get most folks aren't. So if you do decide you need whimsy but aren't for a good comedy song... There is a good comedy song on here... Do what you will with that information.

Stuck in traffic in the summer thoughts-
Either Chappelle Roan or Kelly Clarkson should release a cover of Billy Joel's "You Might Be Right" and they wouldn't even need to change the words to make it the biggest sapphic banger of the summer

See, I can get behind the message of Broken (Seether, Amy Lee). It takes a couple to see past each other's pain and past. I hate how they turned out, though.

Bin davon geflasht, wie viel leichter es ist, beim Spielen Feinheiten rauszuhören und zu korrigieren, wenn Mensch sich in Echtzeit dabei hört. Ein Mikrofon macht so viel mehr Sinn als ich wusste.

Word of the Day: Petrichor
Definition: The earthy scent produced when rain falls on dry soil.
Context: The smell of petrichor is like nostalgia wrapped in raindrops, grounding us in the beauty of the simple things. It reminds me of "November Rain" by Guns N' Roses—timeless and moody.

currently obsessed with the song "Half Life" by Djo- I love the sharp transitions between soft washing verse to rhythmic, punchy chorus, but there is ONE SPECIFIC MOMENT IN THISE SONG THAT I AM ADDICTED TO. on the line "The world is changing... and upgrading... faster than we can control..." there's a very specific semichord chord change from minor to major and it's SO ADDICTIVE because of how softly it's sung, along with the gentle, hypnotizing backing track at this point, with the soft faux-new wave synth climbing up in a little ascending pattern afterwards- UGH IT'S SO GOOD BUT MAINLY... THE BEST THING ABOUT IT!!!! is the contradiction between the chord change and the lyrics. If we think about it, a usual thing to write over a minor to major key change is something positive. bad to good, hopeful. and that's how it sounds- Hopeful. ... but what he's talking about in that lyric is the disconnection of humans because of how quickly a digital life has overcome our species... SO WHYYYYY DOES IT SOUND SO HOPEFUL?? WELL, FRANKLY?... I don't know. It could be plenty of things. One idea is that it's hinting at the addiction. the addiction the human species has to progress, efficiency, constantly changing everything, making it better, improving, refining, inventing. and the addiction to digital media too of course. another idea is that he could genuinely believe that it's going to end up changing for the better. another idea is that he finds the fact that it's out of our 'control' somehow a relief, the idea that we can do nothing about it relaxing. I just don't know. But I'm thrilled by it everytime.
