A mature male Scarce Chaser clinging to a leaf, cropped tight so that only his head and thorax and the top few segments of his abdomen are included in the image. He is a medium-sized dragonfly with a black face and blue eyes. His thorax is a dusty brown-black, and his abdomen is covered with a chalky pale blue coating known as pruinescence or pruinosity. His wings are mainly clear, but there is a black triangle at the base of each hindwing. His legs are black.
