What's the use of belief when it changes?

I used to believe
(in some sense of the words)
in a higher power
(in some sense of the words).
But through the pale of time,
the sense of the words
has faded away
to nonsensical verbs.

I think now I believe
(for what it's worth)
in the roads a man takes,
(for what it's worth)
drawing a path
that measures his worth
but always provides
the chance to diverge.

Sympathy for the Dissected Undead
Did you know there was nothing to be done when you ordered the surgery?

Did you smell the rot from the first incision,
or did your mask ward off
the scent of decomposition?
Did you question the state of the bone shards you found,
or the fact that his lungs weren't inflating?
Were his eyes shooting open cause for alarm,
or did you continue, not thinking of the harm?

What did you find in the pit of his gut
that spurred you to keep on digging?
To excavate ribs and to pierce through the spine,
was it something truly amazing?
Or was it procedure, to fully destroy,
to cut off the path to the heart,
to paralyse limb and sever the tendons,
in hopes he would never restart?

Did you sleep well, that night,
with his blood down the drain?
Did you dream of unliving things?

Did you remember, when his hand circled your throat,
that you never destroyed the brain?
