National Cancer Plan for England is missing faith partners THE newly published National Cancer Plan for England arrived with bold ambitions: to transform the country from a “long-standing laggard to a genuine global leader in cancer” by 2035, saving 320,000 additional lives. "The National Cancer Plan’s ambitions are right, its diagnosis is accurate, and its emphasis on prevention is evidence-based. But its ignoring of faith communities threatens its equity goals," ✍️ Raman Bedi

Surviving cancer isn’t just about a cure, it’s about living well after treatment. Many people struggle with late effects. The National Cancer Plan must recognise #PelvicRadiationDisease and provide support shaped by lived experience.

Southampton Clinical Trials Unit, and the quote: "One of the most important aspects of this National Cancer Plan is shifting the emphasis to how we can provide more screening and early diagnosis tests away from hospitals and take them out into the community, and even into people's homes, to increase accessibility.
Making it easier for people to take part in screening programmes is key to improving early cancer detection rates and subsequent cure rates and ensures that everyone is included equally.
We are running trials looking at other ways we can encourage people to take up screening opportunities, be this a blood sample taken in your local GP surgery or pharmacy, a nasal swab that can be sent in the post, or a urine collection kit sent to your home."

We welcome today’s publication of the #NationalCancerPlan for England, and its commitment to improving cancer patients' experience at the end of life. We were pleased the plan recognises the need to better understand where people want to die, and to tackle the fact that many still die in hospital.
