The world's largest nature reserve for penguins was created unintentionally. The Falkland Islands were heavily land-mined in the Falklands War, making the beaches off-limits to humans and large predators. But penguins are not heavy enough to trigger the land mines, so the beaches became a safe haven for thousands of them.
