Photo of 4 White-tufted Grebe on a lake in the Falkland Islands. The photo shows one bird running across the water, away from the camera, so fast it's raised up on the water, chasing an opponent, slightly in the foreground is another bird who had been joining in with the fight while in the distance a 4th bird, probably a female looks on. There was a keen gusting wind that had set up tiny waves constantly rippling over the surface of the lake.

There are 2 birds in this photo! A White Tufted Grebe has chased across the surface of a lake and thrown itself onto the top of a rival forcing it underwater. All that can be seen is a trail of splashes and a bundle of feathers which is the back and rear end of the aggressor, its orange legs just showing through the turbulent water.

CONFLICT! #FalklandIslands #BirdsSeenIn2026 We sat and watched a group of 9 White-tufted Grebe, the females floated around the periphery while the males went hammer and tongs at each other seemingly trying to drown their opponents.
