At #OPSconf2024 the consistency of analysis to facilitate comparison between #OnePlaceStudies was mentioned. Any thoughts on how we can achieve this? Any rules to follow when doing analysis? Would be useful for analysing #OnePlaceCohorts too #OnePlaceWednesday
How amazing was #OPSconf2024?! What have you added to your To Do list? Here’s mine:
Learn more about social networking
Learn more about analysis
Finalise a step by step method of analysing who stayed & who migrated
Prioritise transcribing to assist with analysis

Ooh thank you - more for my list! I bought a few books cheaply on eBay during #OPSconf2024 yesterday
EXAMPLE hand drawn diagram showing connections between people
My quick hand drawn reminder of one of @janetfew.bsky.social connection diagrams. Did this quickly using Goodnotes. .

Fabulous talks today for #OpsConf2024 thanks to everyone involved in setting it up and the fantastic speakers. So much to think about and add to the to-do list.

The list of talks at the Society for One-Place Studies conference today
What a fantastic #OPSconf2024 that was! I think the ‘Making Connections’ theme really resonated with members. I’m excited to try out some of the ideas! #OnePlaceStudies
Its been a long day - cut me some slack 🤣🤣🤣🤣
#OPSConf2024
Or even #OPSConf2024! 😄
A big Thank You to our speakers, to everyone who organised/coordinated, and to all the members who joined in. Recordings of today's talks should be available next week. #OPSConf2024
Well #OPSConf2024 was brilliant! Informative talks giving people lots of ideas for #FamilyHistory / #LocalHistory / #OnePlaceStudy research, networking, and connection-making. Plus lots of good-natured chat, with many helpful resources shared. Provisional date next year's conference is 22 Nov 2025.
A fabulous talk as always from Janet, with lots to take away relating to surnames, kinship, influencers and 'core families' in our #OnePlaceStudies! #OPSConf2024
Second, on my own blog, Analysis: The 1841 census of Waters Upton (Part 2) - this includes a look at who remained in the parish in the 10 years between 1841 and '51, and factors that may have affected this. #OPSConf2024
Finding @janetfew.bsky.social 's talk really interesting! Thanks, Janet and #OPSConf2024
A couple of things I wrote relating to surname research, core families, and persistence (or otherwise) in my Waters Upton #OnePlaceStudy. First, for the @oneplacestudies.bsky.social blog, The Top Ten Surnames of Waters Upton. #OPSConf2024
Janet's #OnePlaceStudy of Bucks Mills in Devon is of a parish with a strong link to one particular surname: Braund. Most of our study places won't have such a predominant surname, but surname-based research - particularly looking at persistence of surnames/families - can be revealing. #OPSConf2024
Good to 'see' you at the Conference Leslie! I'm sure the recordings will be valuable not just for those who missed all or part of the day, but also for members re-watching talks they found of particular interest! #OPSConf2024
Our final presentation of the day has now started, with @janetfew.bsky.social exploring the relationship between one-place and one-name studies. #OPSConf2024
A burial register, the Roll of London Livery Companies Online, a will, Chancery cases in the TNA catalogue, and now on to digitised newspapers and other printed sources, and maps at Layers of London, in the search for records to link up and tell the story of the deceased. #OPSConf2024
The case study now in progress has begun with a 1688 funeral ticket. What records will expand on the story of the deceased... #OPSConf2024
Anna's presentation on record linkage is now under way. We've looked at one of the core sets of records used in many #OnePlaceStudies, parish registers (and their gaps and inaccuracies), and have moved on to a petition to the Bishop of London relating to a 'self-murderer'... #OPSConf2024
It's looking very likely that we will have another session from Joe in 2025 looking at this fascinating and revealing type of research in more detail! A break now in #OPSConf2024 proceedings, but we'll be back at 7pm UK time with Record linkage in historical research by @annacusack.bsky.social.
Such an inspiring talk on social network analysis from @joesaunders1.bsky.social. Head now buzzing with ideas. Like I don't have enough to do already!

Joe has taken us through an example of social network analysis using his research on the print trade in London. Data, once collected and stored in, for example, an Access database can be analysed by software, or online tools, drawing out and helping us to see relationships/connections. #OPSConf2024
Fabulous talk by @joesaunders1.bsky.social at #OPSConf2024 - Social networking would be really useful for my OPS - diving down the rabbit hole very soon
@oneplacestudies.bsky.social
Social networks have definitely been on my mind while reading and making abstracts of wills in my main #OnePlaceStudy - many not just naming family members but also 'well-beloved friends', debtors, and creditors with whom the testators had connections. #OPSConf2024
Historical network analysis has become increasingly popular with academic historians in recent years, and networks relating to places and communities are of obvious interest to #OnePlaceStudy researchers. Joe is now giving a few examples of network analyses. #OPSConf2024
Just tuning in to the #OPSConf2024 (better late than never ... 6:40am in my pyjama's and listening to @joesaunders1.bsky.social
#OPSConf2024 continues now with @joesaunders1.bsky.social giving his presentation on Social Network Analysis in Historical Research.
