Year 6W have been using their oracy skills to debate various motions this week. We focused on cohesive devices, as well as evidencing and explaining points made. We also studied how debates are carried out: taking turns, responding to each other’s points and making eye contact. #OracyatWelbeck

Year 4/3 explored the thoughts and feelings of different characters from
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Each group was given a scenario from the story that they had to act out. The class then guessed what event was being acted out. Brilliant acting and oracy! #EnglishatWelbeck #OracyatWelbeck

6W have been reading Alfred Noyes ‘The Highwayman’. After analysing a range of front covers to make predictions about the story, we read the poem and defined the new vocabulary. We then jumped into the characters’ shoes for some highly impressive hot-seating. #OracyatWelbeck #EnglishatWelbeck

Inspired by their electricity topic, Year 3 orally retold a story called ‘Blackout’. We made sure to project our voices loud, clear and with expression, while adding extra detail using powerful adjectives and adverbs we gathered together as a class.

Year 4/3 enjoyed getting into character and re-enacting a scene from Boudicca’s play script once the Roman army had taken over much of Britain. The groups used brilliant expression, volume, actions and facial expressions. Can you spot any homework projects being used by the army?! #OracyatWelbeck

Having discussed deforestation this week, Year 3 planned and read out their own public service announcements, asking for people to help save the rainforests! They focused on how to grab the audience's attention using a loud, clear voice with lots of expression. 📢🗣

Year 3 discussed arguments for and against deforestation in groups, passing round string to track our conversations. We then had a debate, each taking different points of view, including a logger, conservationist, cattle farmer and even a fast food restaurant owner!

Year 3 enjoyed a lively RE lesson, debating whether they prefer to do work on their own or with others and coming up with reasons for each side. We then applied this to explain why some Muslims might want to pray in a Mosque. 🕌
