The Ottawa River seems steely-smooth against colourful lights that reflect on its surface. Across the river, the Rideau River comes to an abrupt end as it tumbles down to meet the Ottawa River. Lights from Sussex Drive emit different colours. A patio to the left of the falls glows an orange-amber from strings of lights.

How is this whimsical?
Well, I had not planned on skiing back home in the dark (no headlamp) but I kept following the sunset because it was so gorgeous and it drew me out further and further.

My first snowshoe on the river this year (don't worry, I largely follow the shoreline).
Very deep snow in spots, even though it doesn't appear so. It's hard but fun work.

Took a long lunch and skied to the infamous Britannia park ice swimming lane.
From a distance it looks like a sparkly Lilliputian ice castle.
I have yet to see it in use but I'm told it's used daily.
We've had a coldish winter so a -8C afternoon with sun felt balmy #OttawaRiver

Haha went too fast for the first half of my ski. Had to stop for a breather.
I'm three kinds of skier: energetic with flow, solid rhythm, oh damn running out of juice and shuffling home.

Yesterday I spotted an owl in the woods near the #OttawaRiver. We started at each other for five minutes, and then he flew closer and settled in a tree near me. We watched each other for a few more minutes before a man and a dog disrupted our curiosities.
