An orange-hued boulder featuring a simple, light-colored petroglyph of a stylized human figure. The figure is an "X" shape with a vertical line through the center, forming a torso, outstretched arms, and legs. Small patches of yellow lichen and dark desert varnish are visible on the textured rock surface under bright, direct sunlight.
This one is more abstract, and I’m not sure what it represents.
It is another Neolithic petroglyph from Aït Ouazik.
The carving faces the valley, so maybe it was meant to relate to the landscape.

Looking across Kawa Bay to Ke'eku Heiau at sunset. Black lava rock in the foreground and Kahalu'u Bay in the background. The heiau Keeku heiau, had a grim purpose. It was a luakini, a place of human sacrifice. A 16th-century Maui chief, defeated after a bitter battle, was bloodily sacrificed here. His two dogs died of grief and are buried in the corners of the heiau, as spiritual guardians. Their story is told in petroglyphs visible at low tide (see next photo)
One of the petroglyphs telling the story of the 16th century battle between Chief Kamalalawalu of Maui and Chief Lonoikamakahiki. The petroglyphs can be seen at low tide in Kawa Bay. A stick figure with "U" shaped legs seems to be pointing to its left. A fainter and smaller stick figure is upside-down above the first.
A rock formation along the Kona coast. It resembles the profile of a dog, which is why we call it "Dog Rock." Creative, no? It juts out from a large lava boulder and is silhouetted against blue water. A rocky shoreline is visible in the distance.
My favorite vacation spot is volcanic so I have a plethora of stones to photograph at sunset. I offer a trio of pictures for #BlueSkyArtShow with today's #stone theme, all shot in the same area of Keahou, #Kona. Thanks for your indulgence.

The photo shows two distinct kinds of rock. On the left is a huge grey rock that appears weathered smooth in gentle curves. On the right is a more jagged surface with layers of reddish and grey stone. The face of the grey stone appears to be reinforced, maybe with concrete, in some horizontal layers. About in the middle of the grey face is a crude carving of the outline of what looks like a thin horse, facing right.
Petroglyph in the #stone of the Helan Mountains, Ningxia. There are tens of thousands of carvings, dating back as far as 10,000 years. Not sure whether this is a horse or a local blue sheep.

FYI There's a "flower" petroglyph at Lake Winnemucca in Nevada that's been dated to between 10-14 millennia old.
So it's 2-6 millennia older than these 8 millennia old flowers.
That "flower" #petroglyph may depict a #TotalSolarEclipse.

A historic Ute or Diné petroglyph of what looks like a Moose, which I believe may only be known from one other depiction at a rock art site in the American Southwest
