Antarctica isn’t owned by anyone and has no official flag, so when I travelled south for the #ERC_SIESTA #POLARIN project, I brought flags designed by schoolchildren, to send them photos of their amazing creations flying in Antarctica. Our field work is part of the WhiteIce campaign, a POLARIN project run by Roberta Pirazzini. We will build continuously monitoring weather and radiation stations, use drones for RGB, albedo and thermal mapping, and do manual snow-related measurements.

We are hosting guest researchers from the University of #Bristol through a #POLARIN grant #polar #microbiology. Yesterdays pre-field work reconnaissance hike to #Storglaciären showed an essentially still fully snowcovered #glacier. But melt is on the way - no more snow-shoveling around the station 😀
