🌍🌏 Bearded reedling (Panurus biarmicus)
The bearded reedling is a small, orange-brown bird with a long tail, often seen flying low over reedbeds. Males sport a distinctive grey head and black "moustache," while females are paler with a brownish head. They are found in temperate Europe and across the Palearctic, favouring large reedbeds by freshwater or brackish wetlands. These social birds forage in groups, communicating with characteristic "ping" calls. Bearded reedlings nimbly feed near water, sometimes upside down, and run quickly on the ground searching for insects in summer, switching to seeds in winter. Three subspecies are recognised.
Conservation status: Least Concern (IUCN 3.1)
