Afar fossil shows broad distribution and versatility of Paranthropus - Nature With its attribution to Paranthropus, a 2.6-million-year-old partial mandible expands the range of the genus into the Afar region of Ethiopia and adds to our understanding of hominin evolution in east...

The range of diverse habitats with which eastern African #Paranthropus can now be associated shows that this suggested adaptive niche did not restrict its ability to disperse as widely as species of Australopithecus and early Homo.

Hands built for work. KNM-ER 101000 (Koobi Fora, ~1.52 Ma) links P. boisei teeth/skull with hand & foot bones—long thumb, human-like proportions; strong precision + power grips. Anatomy fits stone-tool use, though behavior’s unproven. #PaleoPost #Paranthropus #Oldowan doi.org/10.1038/s415...

A leopard skull depicted biting into an australopithecine skull. Both skulls are facing the viewer. The leopard's upper canines are plunged into the eye sockets of the ancient hominin. The lower canines (obscured by the viewer angle) would be puncturing the base of the australopithecine skull.

The artwork is high contrast black and white with a grainy effect.

I've seen the Paranthropus robustus (AKA Australopithecus robustus) fossil SK-54 going around lately which reminds me of this art inspired by it. A leopard's canines perfectly match two skull punctures on the back of the fossil skull. #fossil #paleoart #leopard #australopithecus #paranthropus #art
