๐ Mandarin Duck (Aix galericulata) The male Mandarin Duck is strikingly colourful, with a red bill, white eye-stripe, reddish "whiskers", a purple breast with white bars, ruddy flanks, and distinctive orange "sails" on its back. Females are more subdued, greyish-brown with a white eye-ring. Native to East Asia, established feral populations exist in the UK and parts of Europe, stemming from escaped captive birds. They prefer wooded ponds and rivers. Mandarin Ducks are generally shy, perching in trees, and often form small flocks. They nest in tree cavities. During breeding, males can be territorial but typically are not aggressive. 2.5 Flash (Edited) Conservation status: Least Concern (IUCN 3.1) ๐ท: Photo by darrenquigley32 via Pixabay https://pixabay.com/photos/mandarin-duck-bird-colorful-3958004/ ZLJE
