Today is #WorldWetlandsDay 🌿
On 2 February 1971, countries agreed the #Ramsar Convention to protect wetlands.
In #Polesia & along the Vistula, Bug, Pripyat and Dnieper rivers, many Ramsar & other protected wetlands at risk from #E40Waterway: savepolesia.org/the-threat/

#Polesia, Europe’s Amazon, hosts over 1.5 million migratory 🐤 & endangered species like European bison, wolves, and lynx. The E40 waterway threatens to destroy 193 international and 139 national protected areas😱. Protect biodiversity — #stop_E40!

#MigratoryFish populations worldwide have declined by 3/4 since the 1970s. The reasons for this catastrophic process are rivers' pollution, alteration & damming.
Healthy & free-flowing #rivers are vital for the #biodiversity of #Polesia & #Europe!

#Polesia is home to millions of migratory birds 🐤 and unique ecosystems. The proposed 2000-km long E40 canal would devastate these habitats and local communities. Stand with us to defend nature!

The past snowless winter & present lack of precipitation exacerbate the problem of #WildFires in #Polesia, which is already acute for the drained areas.
The #firefighting equipment that we provided this year to the PA staff in the #Ukrainian Polesia came in very handy - it is already in full use!
Welcome to the new channel of #WildPolesia!
We are the conservation project focused on the protection & restoration of one of Europe's largest wilderness areas.
Follow us to get a glimpse of the wonderful nature of #Polesia and to learn about our progress in researching and preserving its values!
