#Forests are among main #natural treasures of #WildPolesia.
📢127.000 ha of high #conservation value forests were identified in the region as part of our project!
#GPS-tagged #GreaterSpottedEagles are on their way from #Africa, #MiddleEast and #Mediterranean to #WildPolesia! Some #birds have already reached their #nesting sites.
Let’s watch their #springmigration together - wildpolesia.org/greater-spot...
#Water makes #WildPolesia what it is. Its network of #rivers, #mires and #wetlands is a huge reservoir accumulating fresh water and generously giving it to millions of people. Recognising the vital role of water, we can't but acknowledge its exceptional #beauty - just have a look!

#WorldRewildingDay
#ChornobylExclusionZone is one of the most peculiar areas of #WildPolesia where passive #rewilding has been going on for decades. Having emerged as a result of a terrible disaster, it's now a valuable source of scientific data on the process, patterns and effects of rewilding.
#Birds’ #SpringMigration is on! Our #GPS-tagged #GreaterSpottedEagle nicknamed Lan is on his way from #SouthAfrica to #WildPolesia – his annual route is more than 7K kilometers long!
Thanks to these & thousands of other images obtained during the unprecedented #CameraTrap survey, researchers have estimated the density of #lynx population in #WildPolesia for the first time! As a part of our project, the survey laid the basis for science-based research on lynx in the region.

Dozens of #rangers & scientists working in the #Ukrainian protected areas of #WildPolesia were trained in camera trap and SMART (Spatial Monitoring and Reporting Tools) monitoring techniques.
The data from a large-scale #AcousticMonitoring survey conducted in #WildPolesia laid the foundation to a new #Study. It for the first time analyses the occurrence & distribution of some understudied elusive #species.

The number of #ProtectedAreas in #WildPolesia increased – better #protection is ensured to valuable natural areas, rare and typical biotopes, and #RareSpecies’ habitats.
The field stage of #WetlandRestoration in #Ukraine started with the hydrological monitoring launch. It is the first time that modern automatic equipment was implemented for water levels measurement in #WildPolesia.
Dear friends, it's time to share the recent accomplishments we are proud of. This is the summary of our 2025 #ConservationWins for #WildPolesia 👇📷🧵
The Frankfurt Zoological Society has been working in #Ukraine for 25 years! This anniversary was celebrated with a meeting held in #Ivano-Frankivsk. Topics covered at the event included the results and prospects of cooperation between the FZS and the natural #protectedareas of #WildPolesia.
Heavy #snowfalls in #WildPolesia, like today, cause many inconveniences for people, but benefit #wilderness. They ensure normal seasonal flooding, optimal #waterlevels in spring and summer, better breeding conditions for many #bird species, as well as protection from #wildfires.
🥳 We can not wait to share some great news with you - it's worthy of these festive days!
The habitats of rare #animal and #plant species in #WildPolesia, totalling >11,000 ha, have been granted legal protection this year!

A #cameratrap captured a #lynx and a #deer, its potential prey, passing in the same place just a few minutes apart.
#WildPolesia harbours many #wilderness areas where #ecosystems are healthy & self-regulated, including thanks to a stable predator–prey balance.
#WildlifeWednesday
#CameraTraps are an excellent tool for #biodiversity #monitoring in #WildPolesia.
>70 scientists & rangers took part in the training sessions on CTs held by our project this year in #Ukrainian PAs. They've been provided with 150 cameratraps for their further research and #conservation work.
As part of our project, the experts counted the numbers and densities of #Lynx in #WildPolesia, as well as analysed their behavior. #carnivores #biodiversity #WildlifeWednesday

#Wetlands and #peatlands of #WildPolesia make an immense impact on #climatechange mitigation. But being degraded, they can only worsen the existing problems. Rewetting and restoring mires is our #ClimateAction.

#BatAppreciationMonth
#WildPolesia is home to at least 12 #bat species, including rare & protected ones. These animals depend on #deadwood & old-growth #forests. We make efforts to protect the #habitats of these and other #rarespecies: wildpolesia.org/blog/2025/09...
Just look! The #GreaterSpottedEagles are on their annual journey from #WildPolesia to their wintering grounds, thousands of miles away. Where are they flying, and who is
the fastest? Follow the rare birds' #autumnmigration online via the interactive map: wildpolesia.org/greater-spot....
Let’s celebrate a true treasure of #WildPolesia, life-giving arteries for both nature and people – the free-flowing #rivers that
provide habitat to a variety of species;
help to mitigate the climate change;
prevent dangerous natural phenomena.
#WorldRiversDay
Identifying and protecting rare and typical #habitats, as well as monitoring activities that allow for the identification of such areas are an effective and important mechanism for preserving #NaturalValues in #WildPolesia.

The globally endangered #GreaterSpottedEagle is a key #species for our project. #DYK that it can have a rare pale morph, and only a few of such birds have been recorded in #Europe? One of them, a female of >12 years old, has been breeding in #WildPolesia for several years in a row.
The rare European #StagBeetle, one of the biggest beetles in the world, occurs in #WildPolesia. Its larvae develop for several years feeding on dead wood. #biodiversity #NatureConservation #RareSpecies
The old-growth #forests of #WildPolesia, with a large number of old & dead trees, are home to many rare and protected #species. We identify these #habitats and protect them to preserve them in their natural state, which is crucial for the region's #biodiversity.
#Floodplain #OakGroves are a #landmark of #WildPolesia. They perform water protection & water regulation functions, and are home to diverse & rare flora and fauna #species.
Growing anthropogenic pressure leads to degradation & disappearance of these valuable natural complexes.
Unlike in many parts of #Europe, #wolves have never completely disappeared from #WildPolesia despite habitats' fragmentation and unrestricted hunting.
We are studying the local #wolf population to improve the #conservation of this charismatic species.
