An inconvenient truth – the hidden humanitarian crisis in Switzerland 🚨 In Switzerland, it’s estimated that around half a million people live with Long COVID. Of those, roughly 10% suffer from the severe neuroimmunological form known as myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME/CFS). Additionally, there were already 20,000 to 25,000 people living with ME/CFS prior to the pandemic. Despite this, only about five doctors in the entire country currently treat post-acute infection syndromes like Long COVID and ME/CFS according to the D-A-CH expert consensus (evidence level 2). And while reinfections with SARS-CoV-2 drive disease progression, there is virtually no public awareness of the importance of controlling indoor aerosols to prevent transmission. In a country known for its wealth and organization, this is a severe systemic failure. Many in Switzerland continue to believe that “it can’t be that bad”—but this is cognitive dissonance in the face of a growing humanitarian crisis. It’s time we acknowledge these truths. And act. ‼️
