A collection of vintage Apple computers is neatly arranged in a basement workspace with unfinished walls lined with pink insulation. The machines are placed on and around a beige desk with a wood-themed vinyl floor beneath. On the floor in the foreground sits a Graphite iMac G3 facing the camera. To the left of it is a Shuttle XPC cube, and to the right are three Power Mac G4 towers in a row: a Quicksilver, a Mirrored Drive Doors (MDD), and a Graphite model. 本日も終日PowerBook G4のメンテナンス作業でした。アマゾンから荷物が届くと、サクッとSSDへの換装を済ませて、ゴチャゴチャとややこしいMac OS 9.2.2のインストール作業へ。今回は別のアプローチで作業を進めます。MacBook Air上のUTM（QEMU）にセットアップした、Mac OS 9.2.2をPowerBook G4に持ち込むという荒技です。山あり谷ありの作業は無事に終わりましたが、Classic Mac OSを操作しているとマウスを使いたくなるのは私だけでしょうか。 #powerbookg4 atpurl.com/wTQysHx

先日発掘したPowerBook G4のリカバリメディアが見つからない。捨てるはずはない（はず）。いくら探しても見つからないので、Mac OS 9.2.1のCD-ROMからシステムをインストールする作戦に変更。しかし、何故だか上手くはいかずに作戦は失敗。気持ちが悪いが「NetBoot9.dmg」からMac OS 9.2.2を取り出すことにした。動いてはいるが如何にも居心地が悪いのだ、んー。 #powerbookg4

仕舞込んでいたオペレーティングシステムやソフトウェアを探していると箱の中から......。発掘しました。これは「PowerBook G4 (Titanium)」の667MHzモデル。丁寧に使っていたので、とても状態が良く綺麗。電源ケーブルを接続して立ち上げてみると、無事に起動しました。オペレーティングシステムは、初期のMac OS Xにアップデートした状態。Mac OS 9.2.2に戻したいので、まずは暇を見つけて本体のメンテナンス作業かしら。とても嬉しい。 #powerbookg4 atpurl.com/X6kXaS4
