I've released version 0.3.7 of my WIP #Psion Agenda-like app "Pygenda" targeting keyboard-equipped PDAs running Linux (#GeminiPDA, #CosmoCommunicator, #PinePhone + keyboard, #PocketReform, F(x)tec #Pro1X).

The last two releases have been bug-fix releases (two releases because minutes after 0.3 […]

A photo of a Gemini PDA and a Cosmo Communicator (clamshell handheld devices with keyboards, similar to the Psion Series 5 from the 1990s, but more powerful and with colour screens). They are both running desktop Linux and Pygenda. On the Gemini, Pygenda is open in Week View and a todo-item is visible for 24th December: "Do Christmas shopping". On the Cosmo, Pygenda is open in Year View and the same to-do item is visible.

40 hrs left to get a @thefxtec #Pro1x. This link unlocks the "secret" @xdadevelopers perk at 527€/$639 (less than a #Pro1):Check earlier tweets for videos of Pro1 running Sailfish, Ubuntu or Debian as a container. Also do watch @teringleider's review.

Ubuntu Touch vs SailfishOS side-by-side on the F(x)tec Pro1 keyboard slider phone
Ubuntu Touch vs SailfishOS side-by-side on the F(x)tec Pro1 keyboard slider phone **An overview of both OSes on the F(x)tec Pro1, and some discussion about how the hardware keyboard compares with other keyboard phones.** The Pro1x, a Pro1 with moar storage, RAM, a blue case and a non-shifted QWERTY layout, is now available on Indiegogo until the end of this week: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/pro1-x-smartphone-functionality-choice-control/x/3170084?secret_perk_token=2c0a82a4 If you use this link, you can pick a "secret" perk with the special price with a coupon from XDA Developers (no much of a secret, it is in the XDA announcement article). This makes the Pro1x cheaper than the Pro1. It is a crowdfunding campaign so there may be delays, but as you can see the company already delivered the first product so I'm quite confident that they'll eventually deliver the Pro1x too. The video may give a false impression: I do not dislike Planet Computers devices at all. In fact, I am really happy that they are on the market and even though their offering would not be my first choice because of the keyboard, hinge and SOC, it is great that they are contributing to the love for keyboard phones. Now with them, Unihertz and F(x)tec, we can finally choose.

A side-by-side overview of @UBports's #UbuntuTouch & Jolla's #SailfishOS running on @thefxtec #Pro1 hardware keyboard phone:Hopefully it helps those hesitating in the last 3 days of the IGG campaign (link in the description).

Not many @thefxtec #Pro1x units left with Black Friday prices: a few 6/128GB units at 502€, and fewer 8/256GB at 569€. Check earlier tweets to see what this device can do with Ubuntu or Sailfish+Debian. More suitable than the Astro for mobile Linux imo.

Typing test on handheld Pro1 (no desk support)
Typing test on handheld Pro1 (no desk support) Without the camera keeping me further from the phone, my score was 60 wpm/252 cpm/100%.

This is why I want a thumb hardware keyboard and not one for 10 fingers on my smartphone: I don't want to need a table or a desk to use it. This way I can even type while walking. Thanks @thefxtec for putting 64 keys on it.#pro1 #pro1x #hwkb #fxtec #xda

Typing test on handheld Pro1 without the hardware keyboard; apologies
Typing test on handheld Pro1 without the hardware keyboard; apologies Not a very fair comparison because I am not used to typing on Onboard, plus I configured it to a relatively small size, but there is no way I will ever do 250 characters per minute with a touch keyboard.

And this is why I want a hardware keyboard on my smartphone (although this is not 100% fair: I'm not use to this vkb and it's admittedly configured small, but I would never type 250 char/min with it).#pro1 #pro1x #hwkb #fxtec #xda

Desktop Linux & WM on Pro1 qwerty slider without sacrificing telephony: LXC containers in SailfishOS
Desktop Linux & WM on Pro1 qwerty slider without sacrificing telephony: LXC containers in SailfishOS Aplogies for the annoying accent. This is an overview of full desktop Linux distributions running as LXC containers in SailfishOS, on a F(x)tec Pro1 qwerty slider phone. Jump to 06'23" for Kali XFCE (fresh install) or 08'40" for Debian i3-gaps (configured install). I am not affiliated to SailfishOS or F(x)tec, and am merely a community member using sailfish-containers since a few months. This application is being developed by r3vn (https://github.com/sailfish-containers) and is inspired by previous work by elros34 and Preflex on chroot solutions and Xwayland. Battery use is similar with and without containers running, one can go through the day with a full charge and light to normal use. The Pro¹ does not have a bleeding edge SOC, but the performance is good enough for what I use it for, and using this SOC may actually be an advantage for overall Linux support (drivers, mainlining task). It is possible to use the us-intl layout and deadkeys on the hardware keyboard, this is how I use it. There is also support for external keyboard and mouse, meaning we're only missing hw-decoding and, most importantly video-out through the USB-C port, for ultimate "Convergence" where we'd get a full desktop experience and not a mobile OS with an external display. Hopefully someone will find a way to make video-out work on Sailfish so we can get the perfect Linux travel companion. Can't wait to run #SailfishOS + #Debian container on #Pro1x from @thefxtec and @xdadevelopers. Works well on #Pro1 with "just" 6GB of RAM. Having i3 + rofi + my favorite applications + LTE in my pocket is priceless. See it in action:#Linux

So excited about @thefxtec × @xdadevelopers #Pro1x collaboration: that'll be even more RAM to run desktop #Linux together with #SailfishOS. It works well with 6GB on the #Pro already. See it in action:
