Mkwawa starb 1898 am Ende des Kolonialkriegs zwischen dem Deutschen Reich und den Hehe. Sein Kopf wurde von einem deutschen Soldaten abgeschlagen und der Schädel wohl nach Deutschland verbracht. Wir danken dem Staatsarchiv Bremen für die freundliche Überlassung des Bildes.
