i dearly love #quolls and would love to be able to grow them in numbers one day :,D #wildlife #carer
Perhaps you’ve read the children’s book Frog on a Log — but what about #wombats, #devils, #quolls, & #wallabies? Placing ur camera trap along a log or on top of an old stump can increase ur chances of spotting #wildlife.
WILDLIFE VIDEO (9 min.)
"At the edge of the world, on the edge of extinction, lives the little creature that could. The Quoll."

The devil people from UTAS and the Menzies Centre have been using our property to test devil baits and #vaccine delivery methods to combat #DFTD. As usual the #quolls are stealing the show!

I’ve been dying to share this one!

A slightly brirry nighttime photo of a chudditch - the animals is chestnut brown with white spots. It is feeding on a dead western grey kangaroo. The quoll's pink nose is just visible.
The prettiest of Australia's four species of #quoll is arguably the chudditch (western quoll). Unfortunately you can't tell from this terrible photo, partly because it has its face buried in a kangaroo.

A display of taxidermy of several species of Australian mammal, with a big green map of Australia.
A taxidermy eastern quoll. The map on its label suggests the quoll lives in Tasmania (where it still does live today) and the southeast of the mainland (where it became extinct)
You can date a display of Australian mammals by whether the distribution maps recognise recent extinctions. Eastern #quolls went extinct in mainland Australia in the 1960s, but they're still on this historic display at @hunterianglasgow.bsky.social Zoology Museum.

Last week I attended Alcoa’s annual Environmental Research Symposium where Dr Justine Barker presented some preliminary results from our #research on how chuditch (western #quolls) use post-mining landscapes. Looking forward to sharing more of our results soon! #wildoz #minesiterehabilitation
Western #quolls and brushtail possums thrive in national park a decade after reintroduction
The #Australian animals were locally extinct but have had a resurgence in the Ikara-Flinders Ranges national park

An Australian conservation success story: western #quolls & brushtail #possums are bouncing back in Ikara-Flinders Ranges 10 years after reintroduction, without conservationists building a massive fence (a lot of work is being put into invasive predator control).🤩

Eastern quoll. Daylight photos of a nocturnal marsupial.
An Eastern Quoll. My first ever sighting in the wild.
#quolls are nocturnal #marsupials who feed at night, so I was very surprised and grateful to get a daylight glimpse.

BOING BOING BOING! A dark-morph eastern #quoll bounds away as it gets released on #fieldwork in #Tasmania. These little bundles of energy are spotted carnivorous #marsupials, related to #TasmanianDevils.

Last month, two dozen captive-bred eastern quolls were released onto a large-scale regeneration property in Tasmania's Midlands as part of a conservation program to help bolster populations.

This is great news! For anyone who has never seen one, quolls are ADORABLE and it's good to know they're making a comeback. Let's all hope for the best and hope the population can recover! #animals #quolls

Did you know that #quolls go #grey too? Eastern quolls have gorgeous fluffy tails, & in the dark morph of the species, these can go grey as the quoll ages. This photo is of a 4-yr-old dark morph female quoll with a magnificent grey tail, recently trapped at our Silver Plains Reserve.

A close-up of the quoll's prominent scrotum
#Quolls are one of those animals that almost never look good as #taxidermy (they're stunning in real life).
This specimen at the Sorbonne also shows another bizarre trope: taxidermists typically hide animals' genitals, but in taxidermy #marsupials, they are nearly always made really prominent. 🤷♂️
Whenever #quolls stop and look back at us as we release them, I always suspect they are thinking, "I will remember your face".

Eastern #quolls are carnivorous #marsupials with the scientific name Dasyurus viverrinus, which means "Hairy tail, ferret-like" - two features which can definitely be seen here...

Hypocrisy is endemic in Tas politics. Govt and Tas Labor promote tourism on back of Environment while proactively destroying it with logging/ fish farms, rejecting restoration #LakePedder and deliberately sending species to extinction #MaugeanSkate #SwiftParrot #Quolls. #politas
A gorgeous eastern #quoll heading back out into the forest. These #marsupial carnivores feast on insects, small mammals and other vertebrates, or basically anything they can get their spotted little paws on.

I've just set up a trailcam in the best quoll-spotting place on my property & will swap out its memory card in a week. For now, here's a video captured beside the driveway last year. m.youtube.com/watch?v=FqDk...

A quoll standing at the base of a small grassy mound with its tail held out behind it, looking up at its sibling. Both animals are a rich reddish brown covered with sharp white spots. Their bodies are sleek and look a bit like weasels.
Here you go. A pair of juvenile spotted tailed #quolls playing near my driveway
Currently trapping #feralcats and #quolls. The former is no replacement for the latter in our ecosystems.
