The central disc is divided into three, the background being dark red enamel, the sillouettes being in gilt: left is the cadeus (staff with snake - this snake has a very good forked tongue sticking out and appears to be smiling), at the top is the 'lamp of learning' (aladdin oil lamp style) and to the right is a casle with three towers with flags flying - (the nearest has a triangular pennant, the other two rectangular flags, sillouettes) - this is the stylised interpretation of Newbury Castle which is used in the Newbury coat of arms and often seen in local iconography such as the icon for Newbury Town Council.

Gold medal attached to a bar. Outer rim inscribed 'Bristol Royal Infirmaty. Founder 1735'. The centre is a profile of a long-curly-wigged man in suit and flouncy neck piece. tthe inscription is a bit odd as the hospital, although founded in 1735, was founded by public subscription. Much later in 1903 a chap called George White saved the hospital from debts, but I doubt he'd have worn a wig like this. It's possible this is an image of George II who was king in 1735, but he tends to be portrayed in medals as a Roman emperor.... If you know the answer please let me know!

'Silver' circular badge with dark blue enamel. The outer ring is embellished (possibly a laurel wreath). Within that is a dark blue enamel ring inscribed ' Bridgend General Hospital, Gorau Golud-Iechyd'. According to Google Translate the latter is Welsh for 'Best Wealth-Health'. The centre is a cut out textured cross, at the very centre superimposed is an oil lamp (aka Nightingale lamp) with a yellow enamel flame at its centre. If anyone knows if the Welsh translation is accurate I'd love to know!
