I'm not saying reckless car drivers aren't a problem too.
What I'm saying is that #RecklessCyclists make Montreal's #BikeLanes UNsafe for other #cyclists & #pedestrians.
I have had VERY close calls as both a #cyclist & a #pedestrian, & I have witnessed reckless cyclists endangering other people.
I disagree.
As someone who is both a #cyclist & a #pedestrian, I can speak from personal experience about how #RecklessCyclists using #Montreal #BikeLanes have come very close to injuring me personally & other #cyclists or #pedestrians.
It's BS to pretend reckless cyclists endanger "no-one else".
To be 100% clear, I'm not saying we should not be concerned about injuries & deaths caused by motor vehicles such as cars & trucks, but my initial comment here & all other comments in this thread are about how #Montreal #BikeLanes are UNsafe thanks to #RecklessCyclists & problematic infrastructure.
I'm focusing on how safe, or not. . . Montreal's #BikeLanes are.
I'm saying they're not safe aka UNsafe thanks to #RecklessCyclists, but also problematic infrastructure, poor lighting in some segments, and inadequate or confusing signage etc.
Let's make our bike lanes safer than they are now.
We do not have safe #BikeLanes.
That's my point.
You agree with me that:
"Reckless people make things UNsafe for everyone."
Are you trying to pretend there are zero #RecklessCyclists on #Montreal bike lanes?
Who says "Only 2% of all traffic related injuries are cause by Reckless cyclists."?
But we don't have safe #BikeLanes.
You agree with me that #RecklessCyclists make bike lanes UNsafe for both other #cyclists and #pedestrians, & there are many reckless cyclists.
There are also problems with #BikeLane infrastructure, lighting & signage that should be corrected to make them safer.
Exactly.
As you correctly state:
"Reckless people make things UNsafe for everyone."
That's why #RecklessCyclists need to be discouraged & properly dealt with.
Also, I'm not concerned only with deaths, which are quite low, but injuries which are considerable & I believe underreported.

My point is not about whether or not having protected #BikeLanes improves the safety for all modes of transportation. It's about the readily verifiable fact that #BikeLane infrastructure & signage could be improved & #RecklessCyclists make bike lanes UNsafe for ALL other #cyclists & #pedestrians.
There's anything wrong with having a rigorous #BikeLane audit.
There's definitely room for improvement of not only the infrastructure, lighting & signage of #BikeLanes themselves, but also ensuring the safety of #cyclists & #pedestrians who are at risk thanks to #RecklessCyclists etc.
