You agree with me that #RecklessCyclists make bike lanes UNsafe for both other #cyclists and #pedestrians, & there are many reckless cyclists.
There are also problems with #BikeLane infrastructure, lighting & signage that should be corrected to make them safer.
My point is not about whether or not having protected #BikeLanes improves the safety for all modes of transportation. It's about the readily verifiable fact that #BikeLane infrastructure & signage could be improved & #RecklessCyclists make bike lanes UNsafe for ALL other #cyclists & #pedestrians.
There's anything wrong with having a rigorous #BikeLane audit.
There's definitely room for improvement of not only the infrastructure, lighting & signage of #BikeLanes themselves, but also ensuring the safety of #cyclists & #pedestrians who are at risk thanks to #RecklessCyclists etc.

Late evening scene in a large city during winter, facing across an avenue that is heavily traveled in the daytime, but not as much at night unless the expressway is blocked; in the foreground, a freshly-painted green, semi-protected bike lane paves the way for an e-bike speeding on its way to do a job and shining its bright amber headlight; the bike lane is separated from the traffic by a row of parked cars, which isn't the best but it's a compromise; beyond the cars, there is a row of hundred-year-old mid-rise, mixed-use buildings with an ever-eclectic mixture of small businesses, including a laundromat, a nail salon, a Mexican cantina, a tiny bodega, and - coming soon - a new pizza shop that is still under construction; it is almost a full city block to the nearest other pizzeria, so we assume this new one is needed; hopefully it is good; further in the distance, the lights of an approaching fire engine are getting brighter and louder; beyond that, the lights of a large group of tall, residential, high-rise buildings brighten the night sky; many of these are retirement condos and although there are about twelve in total, only six or seven are present in this scene; the sky is completely black and there are also some leafless, skinny trees here and there.
