It's been 3 years since the #RespectForMarriageAct became law. Our members were instrumental in getting this bill to the President’s desk, but we know the work isn't done yet. There's more we need to do to fully protect LGBTQI+ people, including by passing the #EqualityAct next!

I was proud to help pass the #RespectForMarriageAct in Congress to lock in protections for same-sex and interracial marriages nationwide.

The Supreme Court’s decision to reject a challenge to marriage equality is welcome news, but there is still a long way to go.

“Since her very first speech on the House floor, when she called for action to confront the HIV and AIDS crisis, Nancy Pelosi has been a fearless champion for the LGBTQI+ community. She was one of only 67 Representatives to vote against the so-called Defense of Marriage Act and one of the earliest voices to oppose California’s Proposition 8. As Speaker, she led the House in passing landmark laws that changed lives—the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell Repeal Act, the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act, and the Respect for Marriage Act. Under her leadership, the House twice passed the Equality Act, a priority she made clear would always remain at the heart of our fight for full equality. Our community has had no greater ally as Speaker, and her leadership has brought real, lasting change for LGBTQI+ people across the country.” Rep. Mark Takano, Chair of the Congressional Equality Caucus. Read Rep. Takano’s full statement at the link in our bio.

Our community has had no greater ally as Speaker than @pelosi.house.gov, from her first speech on the House floor on HIV to passing landmark bills like the #RespectforMarriageAct into law and championing the #EqualityAct.

Thank you, Madame Speaker, for your incredible leadership!

Today is #NationalLovingDay, honoring the landmark Supreme Court case Loving v. Virginia, which struck down bans on interracial marriage.

It’s a reminder that the freedom to love—and to marry—should never be up for debate.

"Anti-equality politicians may hate to her it, but marriage equality is still the law of the land." ABC News headline: Idaho Republican legislators call on SCOTUS to reverse same-sex marriage ruling. WZMQ/CBS News headline: Michigan Representative pushes to overturn marriage equality.

TO BE CRYSTAL-CLEAR:

Resolutions by anti-equality politicians CANNOT compel SCOTUS to overturn marriage equality.

The Constitution guarantees same-sex couples' right to marry—and we passed the #RespectforMarriageAct to ensure long-lasting protections for those marriages.
