Oil on board. Cube Biome Series. Man with boxes. In this series I combine vague game imagery and concepts, with master oil painting techniques from the past. Sometimes illustrative, sometimes 'fine' art such as the naturalists of the late 1800s and their deep love of simple life and nature, an early reaction against growing industrialisation and so far, the last true reverence of untouched nature in art history. A man moves through a misty, raining, dark landscape holding a box and moves toward a glowing, floating box. We do not know what he is doing. He also does not know what he is doing, but he feels like he has purpose. It is questionable whether he actually does, or if purpose even exists. But here, he is still within the power of nature and must negotiate it as a part of it, not a controller of it. The painting is highly textured with broad brush strokes and heavy impasto.
