With his friend Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Wordsworth was a principal architect of literary Romanticism. By focusing on emotions, individualism, and the language Wordsworth heard in everyday conversations, he changed written English. Nature as a spiritual, healing force and celebrations of the inner life of the everyman quickly replaced the formal, neoclassical writing style that preceded him.
