As Movies Adapt to the Times, the Oscars Can Only Look On Doom-laden humor at the 2026 Academy Awards ceremony obscures the courageous innovation of much of the work it celebrated.

"With the #movie business facing political, economic, technological, sociological, and generational pressures, this year’s [#Oscar] ceremony had something of a funereal air." -- #RichardBrody

Is “The Phoenician Scheme” Wes Anderson’s Most Emotional Film? Despite an abundance of plot strands and characters, Anderson’s latest drills down into the father-daughter relationship depicted by its leads, Benicio del Toro and Mia Threapleton.

Saw #ThePhoenicianScheme by #WesAndersona couple of weeks ago and still haven’t got it all figured out. This piece by #RichardBrody in #TheNewYorker helped a little.

The Empty Ambition of “The Brutalist” Brady Corbet’s epic takes on weighty themes, but fails to infuse its characters with the stuff of life.

Raced to see THE BRUTALIST and admired the cinematography and high level of visual allusions, which I always love. I also admire a good ending but agree with Richard Brody that this ending is made to do entirely too much of what the film leaves undone. #RichardBrody #TheNewYorker #TheBrutalist
