It wasn't a 2025 #cDrama but I watched this year #RisingWithTheWind was my 1st hate-watch in a LONG time. I was stunned that we were supposed to cheer on the FL while she systematically & repeatedly screwed over the 2FL - who through the ENTIRE Drama never caused her harm but was still the villain
Known in my Niflheim neighbourhood as the nattering nabob of neverending niceness (aka A**hole alliteration and assonance addict) I'm giving #cDrama #RisingWithTheWind 4/10 - and all four points are for Ghao Zhi Ting in his delivery of the only bipedal character I liked in the Drama.
This is another strictly technical complaint about #cDrama #RisingWithTheWind subs:
Ep 35 an important scene between the 2ML and 2FL, he's opening up about stuff, and 95% of what he's saying IS NOT SUBBED. Why? Because they've subtitled the BGM song lyrics instead! Not for the 1st time either
I have a 'rule' of a maximum 30 eps for #cDrama that I'm currently breaking with 40-ep #RisingWithTheWind & it's doing a GREAT job of reminding me why I made the rule.
But I LOVED Yang Mi in the 1st of hers I saw, the 36-ep #ThisThrivingLand so she gets another go w/ #SheAndHerPerfectHusband
I'm going to stop posting about #cDrama #RisingWithTheWind after this comment. I've ranted at length about how the Fl deliberately and maliciously acts with unspeakable cruelty and depraved inhumanity toward the 2FL. Ep 23 has the worst example yet. She dragged her away from a keyboard for a RUN!
1/3 The reason I’m hate-watching #cDrama #RisingWithTheWind isn’t *just* because the FL treats the 2FL like nothing more than a convenient pawn to serve her needs. It’s because we’re supposed to ROOT FOR her while she does so.
In fairness to the FL in #cDrama #RisingWithTheWind though she was responsible for the theft & illegal use of the 2FL's item, the actual theft was carried out by the 2ML - the 2FL's stepbrother & decades long friend and 'protector' who opted to quite literally sell her out, only to help the FL🤬
It's been a while since I've had a fun hate watch, and I did not expect #cDrama #RisingWithTheWind to be one. But into ep 22/40 without any sign of the FL giving a single damn about the 2FL beyond "anyway, she works for me now" after repeatedly screwing her over is pushing me over the edge.
1/2 Ever since the FL stole the 2FL's product in episode 18 of #cDrama #RisingWithTheWind and used it in a way that breached the non-compete agreement the Fl's trickery had inflicted on the 2FL, I've been watching VERY carefully to see how the non-compete breach was addressed. The answer? It wasn't
I do NOT look for moral perfection in Drama characters, but I do like seeing behaviour I find morally reprehensible create negative karma. OVER halfway in #cDrama #RisingWithTheWind the FL's pattern of selfish DELIBERATE exploitation of the 2FL has had only POSITIVE results for her. VERY annoying
And all the while the FL (and her 2ML stooge) in #cDrama #RisingWithTheWind keep going on and on and on at the 2FL about how she should REALLY BE A DESIGNER. Ignoring the fact that the whole reason she CAN'T be is because of what the FL did in ep 1
20/40 in #cDrama #RisingWithTheWind ep1 starts with the FL conning the 2FL, getting her fired AND barred from her dream profession for 2 years. By ep 15, 2FL has forgiven her. In Ep 18, FL does it AGAIN, STEALING from the 2FL and making her liable to a lawsuit. Character growth? I think not.
I have to give #cDrama #RisingWithTheWind credit for creativity. It's the first time I've EVER seen someone say " I knew you'd get in massive trouble if I stole that thing from you, but I did it FOR YOU" 🙄
The business lesson in ep 18/40 in #cDrama #RisingWithTheWind is that ACTUALLY, LITERALLY STEALING something from someone you caused to get fired then using the stolen item in a way that opens her up to a massive lawsuit is the way to get ahead. So much for growth from the FL🙄
The one thing I know is that I know nothing. But one thing I know even LESS about is anything to do with plants. Which is why seeing the ML in #cDrama #RisingWithTheWind tell the FL that the ORCHID he gave her was a kind of CACTUS was a "sacré merde!" moment - something even I KNEW was wrong. 🤣
A salute to fansubbers, who are AWESOME. This scene from #cDrama #RisingWithTheWind shows an unsubbed text message - the norm in #cDrama subs from iQiyi, Tencent etc. It's relevant to the story, and good fansubbers would make sure its message WAS subbed
As the ML in #cDrama #RisingWithTheWind starts viewing the FL romantically, I'm reminded of an outstanding thing about #WillLoveInSpring - zero patronising. The ML was brusque & blunt w/ his own baggage, but he was never patronising or controlling to the FL. UNLIKE this ML, and countless othera
One thing the production team of #cDrama #RisingWithTheWind got VERY right was the casting of Gong Jun and Miles Wei. I really struggled to tell them apart, then it became clear that was INTENTIONAL, and important to the story. So, NOT just Sinophobic me thinking "all Asians look alike". Whew! 🤣
Wow! Ep 16/40 in #cDrama #RisingWithTheWind opens with a LONG, sustained comic riff - a lengthy "respect IP, don't plagiarise" message. In a Drama made in the PRC under the control of the CCP, this is hysterically funny, and suggests the writer had recently learned a new word:
Chutzpah 🤣
This is another #cDrama trope that pushes my buttons: "Don't blame someone when they knowingly & deliberately cause you harm"
The FL very deliberately set out to screw the 2FL over but, "don't blame her for this" - says the man who caused the FL's family's financial ruin. 🙄🙄 #RisingWithTheWind
It's this "the little girl needs a man to teach her good" theme that grows tiresome in any #cDrama like this one. If I drop #RisingWithTheWind it will be when utterly sated of that chauvinist Confucian claptrap - and I'll reminisce fondly about #SpringBurning where the FL REALLY did it all herself
The patronising subtext of the M/F relationships in #RisingWithTheWind is FAR from unique of course. Basically EVERY contemporary #cDrama that purports to be about a woman (or women) growing and succeeding "on their own" actually shows them being schooled by a male(s), never DOING the schooling🙄
1/3 through #cDrama #RisingWithTheWind interested enough in the FLs to stick with it for now. BUT it has the same problem I've seen SO MANY times in "female-growth" #cDrama - ALL the learning/mentoring is from M to F. ML schools the FL, 2ML teaches 2FL to grow up. ZERO 'teaching' the otherway.🙄
The whole "candid" photos storyline in #cDrama #RisingWithTheWind is troubling. Her privacy & personal dignity were maliciously compromised and not only is she getting no support from the company, everyone in the company (and the ML, of course) are telling her to suck it up and get over it.
Something I see far too often in #cDrama and less often in #kDrama (don't recall having seen it yet in #jDrama ) is when the taller ML yanks the FL backwards toward him (or at least stops her leaving) by pulling on her hoodie. An instant and serious red flag every single time. #RisingWithTheWind

ep 1 of #cDrama #RisingWithTheWind was clichéd, predictable, dull and boring as hell. Read LOTS of raves about the Drama so will give it a few more. If a DIY lobotomy with one of our Korean chopsticks still seems infinitely more appealing after 3-4 eps, I'll drop the Drama to save making a mess
Halfway through ep 1 of #cDrama #RisingWithTheWind we're introduced to a character I hate so much a drop is already on the cards: The parasitic parent, aka the moocher Mum. Having recently completed a #cDrama where an utterly vile person got forgiveness & a free pass, NOT in the mood for another

Initially at odds with the heiress (played by Elaine Zhong) of a clothing company that goes bankrupt, he ably supports her passionate endeavour to re-establish her late father’s trainer brand
