The satellite and radar over the Northland at 4 p.m. on April 13, 2026, shows a scattered line of showers moving in from the south and southwest, covering the southern most counties in our region. Additional sprinkles are also being detected by the radar in the Iron Range and Rainy River Basin regions.
The Storm Prediction Center has shifted the severe weather threat for the Northland for the rest of Monday even further southeast. Only northwest Wisconsin, especially the southern areas of Burnett, Sawyer, and Washburn counties, are the places that could see a few thunderstorms with hail and strong winds.
4 P.M. #RADAR UPDATE:
#Showers and a few #thunderstorms are moving back into the #Northland from the south and southwest.
Thanks to #cooler #temperatures and a #lakebreeze, the strongest #storms are likely not going to be #severe.
Still a chance for #hail […]

It is moving to the east/northeast. The worst conditions expected from them are lightning, a brief downpour, very small hail, and gusty winds.
7 P.M. #RADAR UPDATE:
The #severe #weather threat in the #Northland has passed as the line of scattered #showers and #thunderstorms is in the marine layer of air near #LakeSuperior.

Fog is likely across the Northland Sunday night after showers and thunderstorms move out. Winds will be light with low temperatures in the upper 30s and 40s. Some storms could contain high winds, hail, and a possible tornado. Highs will range from the 40s and low 50s near Lake Superior, to the 50s and 60s further inland.

A view of the radar over the Arrowhead region of the Northland at 6:15 p.m. on April 12, 2026, shows a thunderstorms over central St. Louis County, moving to the east/northeast. The strongest part of the storm is just southwest of Cotton, and could contain gusty winds and small hail. The area to the east/northeast in St. Louis and Lake counties would be the most likely to see this storm pass over with sub-severe conditions.
6:15 P.M. #RADAR UPDATE:
One #thunderstorms north of the #TwinPorts is the only chance the #Northland has in seeing any #weather conditions near strong or #severe #storm status this evening.
Small #hail and gusty #winds are likely from this, but odds are not […]

A view of the radar over the Iron Range region of the Northland at 5 p.m. on April 12, 2026, shows a thunderstorms just south/southeast of Grand Rapids in far southern Itasca County. It is moving to the east/northeast, which will keep the chance for any heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and possible small hail south of Highway 169 as it passes through central St. Louis County over the next hour.
A view of the radar over northern Koochiching County at 5 p.m. on April 12, 2026, shows an isolated thunderstorm along the U.S./Canada border south of Emo. It is moving to the east/northeast. That would put it in line to pass over International Falls and Fort Francis over the next hour. I would expect a decent rainfall and gusty winds.
5 P.M. #RADAR UPDATE:
A few isolated #showers and #thunderstorms have formed in the Iron Range and Rainy River Basin regions of the #Northland early this evening.
Nothing strong or #severe with them at this time, but expect some #gusty #winds and decent […]

The Storm Prediction Center has placed the northern half of the Northland in a "marginal" risk for severe thunderstorms for the rest of Sunday, April 12, 2026. It is not a guarantee, but if the ingredients for strong or severe supercell thunderstorms do come together, all threats such as large hail, high winds, and even a tornado, could occur.
The timing for Sunday's potential strong/severe weather event will come as a cold front works its way through the Northland late in the afternoon through the evening hours. There will be more showers and thunderstorms no matter their strength, working their way from southwest to northeast.
As for Monday's severe weather potential in the Northland, the Storm Prediction Center has included the southern half of Burnett, Pine, Sawyer, and Washburn counties in an "Enhanced" risk for possible strong or severe thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening hours. The rest of the region along and south of Highway 2 is under either a "Slight" or "Marginal" risk level, with thunderstorm possible across the entire region. All threats, including high winds, large hail, and possible tornadoes, are possible.
#STORMY & #WET NEXT FEW DAYS:
The #Northland will have their first chances at some strong and possible #severe #thunderstorms.
The threat Sunday afternoon/evening is not the greatest, but it isn't zero. All ingredients have to come together.
Monday is […]
