A woman, called Cai, turned into this creature because of the loss of her three children. This creature can be called an evil spirit or a demon, as you like. She is material unlike her children. She is literally blinded by despair and hatred and looks through the eyes of her children. She believes they are still alive and she desperately tries to protect them from anyone who will try to hurt them. Killing poachers who hunt masks, worn by the ghosts of her children, and are highly valued by collectors, or just curious travelers, she can't leave this state of mind where only hatred and the pain of loss exist. That's why they call her Desperate.
