Sandy beach under blue skies. The tide is far out as this is on the Bristol Channel which has the 2nd highest tidal range in the world. In the distance is the South Wakes coast and to the right us Sand Point. A group of people including children are digging for lugworms to use as sea fishing bait. This is something we did as a child too as my dad fished along this coast

A black and white 5x4 photograph of the beach at Sandpoint, Sandbay, Kewstoke, Weston, Somerset, UK. A single tree or bush reaches up left with its tallest branch, whilst standing in spring sunlight at the foot of the raised bank that forms the sea defense. Above this landscape is a band of grey sky line that graduates into a lighter then a darker band of cloud. In amongst and on top of the grasses, that have pervaded this corner of Sandbay beach, there is a miriad of flotsom and jetsom including much driftwood. At the horizontal middle of the image, from the tree out to the right hand edge, is the cliff at Kewstoke and on top this a wood and houses.

From the bottom left the flooded footpath snakes toward the - very small - cliff, near the top right of the image. In the centre of the picture is a large tree trunk of driftwood that, to my eye, resembles a kind of goat-headed serpent. On the horizon sits Steepholm Island in the Bristol Channel. Above this is a band of bright sky line that graduates into a darker band of cloud. The scene seems to have a passing resemblance to Permian times.

A black and white photograph taken Thursday, 18th January 2024 from the shore at Sand Bay, Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, UK. Thursday PM, 18th January 2024. It is a cold though beautiful sunny afternoon. The scene is one of looking up over grasses, bushes and scrub at the back of beach in which is an obscured pillbox, of which we can see only the roof venting against a blue sky. There is a telegraph pole on either end and near the edges of the frame. Some of the telephone wires are connected and some disconnected just hanging done loosely. All this is again a blue sky which is graduated darker at the uppermost of the frame.
