Black and white photograph showing the fountain in the 'sunken gardens' on Loch Promenade in Douglas, Isle of Man. There are people in summer clothes sitting on the wall around the fountain. In the background, lots of people can be seen walking along the promenade or leaning against the sea wall.

While the #IsleOfMan is experiencing a moderate version of the current heatwave, we're still looking longingly at this 1957 photograph of the fountain on Loch Promenade. Wishing everyone a fantastic weekend in the sun or shade! #ManxArchives #SummerVibes #SeasideArchitecture

A lot of #seasidearchitecture during the 1920s was classical in style and simple Tuscan columns were a key feature, particularly of shelters like these at #Blackpool. With 3 levels, the North Shore Promenade dates from the beginning of the decade

Our next seminar explores #seasidearchitecture from the 20th century. The post-war period is still under-appreciated so @seasideferry.bsky.social will share insights from her new book & we'll hear from @danthompson33.bsky.social on Margate's Arlington House plus @sealifeuk.bsky.social #Scarborough

One of our wonderful volunteers is listing a large collection of Department of Transport plans (1841-1984), discovering many treasures in the process. Here are George Kay's 1886 designs for waiting rooms on Queen's Pier, Ramsey. #ManxArchives #SeasideArchitecture #IsleOfMan
