This is part of a 50 mile march route that culminated in the passage of the Voting Rights Act in 1965. There are visitor centers in Selma (currently being remodeled) and Montgomery, Alabama, as well as this site along the highway where the marches took place in February and March 1965. A white woman, Viola Liuzzo, was murdered along this highway in an ambush, while driving marchers back to Selma following the completion of the march.
Dr. Martin Luther King and his wife Coretta participating in the Selma to Montgomery, Alabama march in March 1965. This photo is on display at the MLK National Historic Park in Atlanta, Georgia. National Parks tell the stories of the evolution of this country, both geographically and culturally. There is nothing so-called DEI about telling these stories.

So the idiot in the White House wants to pretend that these events never happened. To promote racism and hatred is totally counter to what these National Historic Sites represent.

3/11 The standoff: "For more than a week, Johnson and Wallace had been going back and forth about president's concerns for safety of Black Alabamians trying to exercise their right to vote and peacefully protest police brutality."
Segregationist Wallace refused. Johnson acted.
