#OTD 21–22 March AD235 #Roman #Emperor #SeverusAlexander & his mother Julia Mamaea were killed by mutinous troops at Mainz. The army proclaimed Maximinus Thrax marking the start of the Crisis of the 3rd Century.
He was kin to #SeptimiusSeverus through his mother's powerful Syrian family.

#OTD 222 AD: After the assassination of #Elagabalus, the Praetorian Guard backed the 13-year-old #SeverusAlexander as emperor. He restored traditional cults and ruled for 13 years until murdered by his own troops in 235AD, triggering the Crisis of the Third Century.
