It is still rather cool in southern Finland & I am still feeding the #birds. I have had a lot of #siskins hanging around for the last week or so - I changed the menu at the feeder and they seem to have disappeared. Maybe this is a good thing, considering 3 of them died hitting my office window. 😞🐦

A male Siskin perched on a small branch. His body is facing away from us and slightly to the right, and he has his head turned fully towards the right. The colours in the plumage we can see is mostly black or shades of green. The top of the head is black, the rest of the head yellowish-green with pale green cheeks; the eye is black and the beak (which is fairly short and ends in a fine, seed-extracting tip) is a mostly grey. The upper part of the back is green with black streaks, the lower part a yellowish-green. The wing and tail feathers are black with bars of yellowish-green. What little we can see of the right flank is whitish, heavily streaked with black. The legs are mostly a dark, brownish colour.
While exploring Brandon Marsh on Saturday, Rob and I came across a couple of birders watching #Siskins feeding on Alder cone seeds. The #birds were high up and with the sun behind them, not ideal for photography—so here's one I photographed last year in Wales. #PlumeScrolling #Nature #UKWildlife 🌿
