We are relieved that a majority of MEPs stood up for Europe’s soils today. However, the abundance of disinformation ahead of this vote is highly concerning, as are the efforts taken by some to undermine the very agreement they themselves helped to shape. Adopting this Law as a next step is a matter of urgency.

Great news for soils!🪱🎉

Despite disinformation campaigns, a majority of members in @europarl.europa.eu Environment Committee upheld the deal reached in April, bringing Europe one step closer to its first ever #SoilLaw!

Next up, the formal adoption and a brighter future for #SoilHealth in Europe!

📣🪱 Tomorrow the ENVI Committe votes on the #SoilLaw. As a compromise text was reached among @europarl.europa.eu @eucouncil.bsky.social @ec.europa.eu after months of debate and concessions, this should be a formality. The vote should bring us a step closer to healthier soils in Europe.

A weak deal for Europe’s soils At 4:30 on Thursday morning, EU institutions reached a provisional agreement on the  long-awaited, and first-ever, EU legislative framework for soils: the Soil Monitoring Law. However, the deal falls ...

🪱 The @europarl.europa.eu @consilium.europa.eu & @ec.europa.eu reached an agreement on a #SoilLaw. Although, as the first-ever EU soil legislative framework, the deal is historic and long overdue, its ambition is appallingly weak.

Despite disinformation campaigns, decision makers reached a historic agreement this morning, however disappointingly the result is an EU soil law that will merely act to monitor continued soil degradation rather than reverse it.

The EU is one step closer to its first-ever #SoilLaw!
But hold the confetti❗

Decision makers failed to ensure that it actually protects and restores Europe's rapidly degrading soils😞

Instead the law will mostly focus on monitoring continued degradation😒

🟢 Healthy #soils are vital for food security, #biodiversity & climate resilience, yet over 60% of EU soils are damaged. As land use competition grows, soil must be central in #climate policies

Joint letter on the Soil Monitoring Law ahead of trilogue Joint letter from 10 NGOs on the urgent need to reach a strong agreement on the Soil Monitoring Law during the trilogue on 9 April 2025.

The good 🎉 The EU might reach a deal on its first ever #SoilLaw this week

The bad 💔 As it stands this timid law won't bring soils back to health or protect them from further harm!

That's why we're calling on the EU to ensure this law is fit-for-purpose🪱🌱👇

Europe is one step closer to the first-ever EU #SoilLaw 🪱

With 60-70% of #soils in poor health, an ambitious law is needed NOW ⌛️ 😰

We've urged EU ambassadors to push for a strong Council position 💪
